Okay, so for my own sanity I'm gonna take a break from Grand Metropolis, but I did find something... interesting...
For this run, you want to get Speed up to level 3 as fast as possible so you can homing attack the poles later on in the level instead of having to do Tornado, so you want to get this balloon here at the start for the Speed level-up.
Normally, you'd have to jump there yourself and lose a second or two, but as seen in the video, if you position yourself just right at just the right speed, you can get the AI to jump up there with you still grounded, letting you continue the run while they get the Speed level-up... screw doing that...
Its really cool, but damn does it highlight a major issue with TA'ing Heroes, there's lots of situations you have to wrangle your team AI like doing Rocket Accels or hitting enemies. Makes it all the more awesome when you get it right, but man is it way too overcomplicated!
So yeah, add that to the list of skills required. Wrangling AI. -

I've noticed smth similar in the Hermit Crab Mission, AI characters can interact with items and enemies like the regular player could, which like you said can lead to a few seconds saved; or switching to Power formation early enough that characters instantly homing attack enemies and clear the enemies quicker than you doing it entirely by yourself... it's a blessing and a curse
wrangling the AI is awful, I'm sure you've noticed that if the characters you aren't controlling (this happens commonly as a Speed character) if your other characters run into enemies and have fall back on the ground invulnerable (since they can't lose rings) switching to another formation or even Fly is delayed if the character can't be called immediately to switch, so you'll have your momentum lost from a character suddenly joining the Flying formation or you're stuck waiting for your Power character so you can fight enemies; the same happens while in Power formation and you launch your characters at enemies, if you try to switch immediately after an unsuccessful hit and that character is now on the ground invulnerable then you have to wait for them to get back upthe fact that the AI can ruin some TA runs bcuz they accidentally ran into an enemy following you is so frustrating, it's like having Tails with you in Sonic 2 doing the special stages-- haha

Sorry I haven't posted anything here in a while, I've been too busy practicing my run on the Brazil-exclusive Sonic game I have.
I know its severely late, but I hope this can get this thread more active again.
Not to toot my own horn, but I think I did the most optimal run possible. Might even put it up on Speedrun.com or someting. -

Okay, buy got realsies, I'm kind of stumped on what game I should try to TA next. I'm thinking Generations? I've been doing a lot of runs on Chemical Plant act 2 and I have gotten quite used to the routing, but its just that left path at the beginning that keeps killing me. Though maybe its better I do a run without it than no run at all...
Sorry for the late April Fools video. -

I have a deep passion for speedrunning, with a particular focus on Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure. These games truly ignite my adrenaline. I have invested countless hours perfecting my techniques and strategies to improve my completion times. Sonic 3 and Knuckles, in particular, present a significant challenge. The level of technical skill required in Angel Island Zone 1 is remarkable, especially in the first 20 seconds. By performing a Drop Dash into the wall near the collapsible platform close to the Ring, you can launch yourself over to the Tree.
There is also a glitch where standing on the very last pixel of the ring cover after the scorch, Spindashing will cause you to become stuck in the wall.
My personal best time for AIZ 1 is 0'39"64, and for AIZ 2 is 1"27"89. I'll gush about the other five zones later. -

NOT EVER IN THE HISTORY OF SPEEDRUNNING HAS SUCH ACCOMPLISHMENTS BEEN MADE!!! I actually didn't know what to expect clicking the vid but I'm forever grateful that I did

Sorry for the late April Fools video.
I was wondering the same thing for myself, the most I've done is set a new PB for Splash Canyon and then tried a TA of Babylon Guardian which the 3rd lap/hit on the boss is deceptively hard
I... may have been playing Sonic Rush again but I'm self conscious since there's lots of learning I'll have to do w/ trick finishers and optimal routes-- I also have to replay the entire game, so there's that too
but practise does make perfect, as long as you have a PB to work towards and sometimes even if it's not the "fastest route" getting better at what you can do is the step in the right direction. I felt bad not posting anything in this thread for the last few days but it happens, and I was browsing an old Sonic website that hosted TAs looking at the times on those and became side-tracked w/ website related things rather than TA/Sonic related things haha
I'm still willing to try a Chaotix Mystic Mansion run, even if I totally flop doing it I know it'll be entertaining for everyone to watch

yeah, the Classic and Adventure games have so much optimization in them that there's lots of time that has to go into practising, even if you're not going for glitches or out of bounds clips there's a lot of momentum you need to keep in both games to get a good time
I'd love to hear your other times for the other zones, and Adventure too! if I did any Adventure runs they wouldn't be "authentic" since I have all the Dreamcastify mods but we're also doing this for fun so I know some mods, as long as I listed them for everyone to check out, would be fine -

I believe Dreamcast conversion and minor gameplay fixes are fine, yeah, I would assume everyone here who has the Steam version has at least one of the two.
But I also wouldn't mind going nuts with a Super Sonic mod, too.
And hey, I wonder how Gamma would work. Do we do like reverse Time-Attack where we try to get the highest time possible? -

I wanted to say highest time/time remaining would be similar to a score attack, but there's also a score counter in Gamma stages...
I suppose you would have both timings listed, your RTA being the time it took you to beat the stage (which you would have to time yourself) and then IGT for the remaining time on the counter? meaning multiple ppl could have the same IGT but their RTA's would be different--I feel like the longer I try to explain my thinking the less it makes sense
setting PB's w/ mods sounds so ridiculously fun, most of the mods I have are simple skin mods so they don't change the gameplay, but Goth Sonic% is now REAL -

sorry I haven't been doing much lately for Time Attack runs, I've been in some kind of creative burn out all week among other things... so I decided to try smth different and play a game I wouldn't regularly play and I decided Superstars would be that game; nothing serious though just decided to play Bridge Island Zone Act 1 w/ Trip bcuz I missed her </3
I know ppl have said it before but it really does feel like Bridge Island Zone was the most realized zone for Superstars, don't get me wrong there's other Zones I enjoy like Pinball Carnival Zone but Bridge Island really has satisfying moments when you try to play this Zone as quickly as possible that other zones don't really have...this run is far from perfect but I'm happy w/ sharing this
I completely forget there is a Time Attack mode in Superstars oops...
