Simple. What started your Sonic fandom?

Mine was when I first go a Genesis(also my first console ever) with Sonic 2. I played it to death! Was a great game and I was drooling over screens of Sonic 3. I became a mega fan once I got Sonic 3. Soon after I got Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 1.

Way back in 1994, my cousins brought their Genesis over. They were playing Sonic 1, and I seen them trying to beat Green Hill Zone. I wasn't interested at first, until my cousin handed me the controller. Ever since I've loved Sonic, and it's still my favorite gaming franchise. I didn't join the community online until 2008 though.

For me sonic x got me in to this fandom when i was like 5 or 7 years old. Then my first original game was Sonic Adventure DX PC. as it was the only pc game of sonic that i had.

My aunt had Sonic Heroes and Sonic Gems Collection as a kid, and I got to borrow them Big Grin
(Which basically meant my first games were Sonic CD and Sonic R of all things... was a lot longer before I got to play the "main" classics and longer still before I got to play SADX/SA2B)

Actually now that I think about it she had Shadow the Hedgehog as well, which I totally beat. Huh, wonder why I'd totally forgotten about that... Cool

    Hoo, boy... Where to start?

When I was about three years old, my dear old Mum had one of those old Sony Ericsson phones that ran on Java ME (Mobile Edition). You know the ones, right? They had a keypad and a little D-Pad/Analogue Stick hybrid nub above all the numbers? One of them.

Anyways, on that phone was a little game called Sonic the Hedgehog. Of course, being three, I didn't really know what the heck a Sonic was (or probably what a hedgehog was either) but the little icon of Yuji Uekawa's Sonic looked really cool, so I used to play that thing all the time. I remember being able to get to Spring Yard Zone but no further. A little unconventional, but we all have to start somewhere, right?

A few years later my older brother gave me his original Xbox and because it had no games, my Mum took to eBay to find some. Among them was Sonic Mega Collection Plus, and from there I got to experience so many excellent games, like Sonic 2 and 3, as well as 3D Blast, which would go on to be one of my favourite EVER Sonic games. It was at this point that I think I realised that Sonic was super special to me, and I would end up cherishing all of these games.

Like Wingzzzzy, I used to watch Sonic X when we had Jetix on TV. I didn't watch it super religiously, but I definitely remember it being on and sitting down to watch whenever I saw it. We also had POP so I watched quite a bit of SatAM, AoSTH and Underground as well.

After all this exposure I was absolutely hooked on Sonic and I guess you could say the rest was history!  Idea

I think the first Sonic game I played was that Sonic Advance flash game, but I couldn't understand English at the time so I didn't know what I was playing, I just knew it looked cool and it was fast. My dad took me to the store and bought me Sonic Adventure 2 Battle - I thought the box art looked cool and I recognized the main character from the flash game I played. I fell in love with the game and the music. I've played it a whole lot as a kid, my dad got me Sonic Heroes and some others too down the line, but I never liked those games as much as I liked Sonic Adventure 2 so I ended up losing interest during most of my middle school years. As I am a girl, gaming was more of a secret hobby of mine.

Years later when I frequented message boards and forums more often in my spare time, I made an account on the SEGA of America boards, which kinda rekindled my love for the franchise and I "officially" joined the fandom. I'd say with me joining this forum as a kid really helped me love Sonic more as well

I’m assuming your native language is Dutch? Did they even have subtitles for that at least in SA2? I know games are getting better at supporting lots of languages but back then I know you were lucky to get subtitles.

Yeah Sonic Adventure 2 was something special so I can see why you didn’t like the others as much although I thought Heroes was close.

When I was a super young kid, back in like, 2000, I found my dad's old Game Gear and my brother's copy of Sonic 2.
That ended up being the first game I ever played. It kicked my ass, and I managed to beat the first boss a grand total of once. We also had a Genesis at the time, so I did manage to get my hands on the original trilogy when I wasn't watching AoStH on VHS tapes. I played them every day, got a Dreamcast and played the Adventure titles and I've been following the series ever since.

And as a side note, seeing people online comment about how they only got into the series around 2010 or so or how their first game was Colors fills me to the brim with "God I'm old" energy.

This, and only this. I gotten this when I was..um, either 5 or 6 years old, so either back in '94 or '95 (I was born in '91.)

....Well, to tell y'all the truth it was AoSTH too that did it, but MAINLY this little gem. Didn't know about the "Lock-On" feature until some years later, like...2002 or so. Sonic 3&K became my favorite game from that moment on.
