That I’m not worried about. Lots of movies these days use a live action/cgi mix. Almost every Marvel movie does it. It can be done well. -

I think the main fear behind that, though, is that popular children's characters none of the general public care about typically get bowl of poo on (excuse my French) when it comes to adapting them for the screen. Alvin and the Chipmunks was already bad, but the movie(s) took that to a whole 'nother level.
Unless I'm wrong, what Kitm's getting at is if we have a repeat of that rubbish come next year, the Sonic series/fanbase will become as much of, if not more of, a laughing stock as it did back in '06. Naturally, he doesn't want that and for that attitude I can't fault him.
I had faith in this thing until Jim Carrey as Eggnik was revealed. Now my expectations are one of those "Family Film of the Summer" type ordeals with slapstick and fart jokes. -

The film is aiming for a PG-13 rating so I doubt it'll be entirely of the same vein as Smurfs and Alvin. -

I dunno. Jim Carrey is pretty good at playing characters that are big hams and Eggman can be as hammy as things get. If nothing else I'd probably see the film just to see how he pulls that off. Ben Schwartz is interesting, though. I kind of just assumed they'd stick with Roger since Sonic will be animated.
My expectations for this have always been low by virtue of being a video game movie, but we'll see how things go. -

Honestly, I was hoping Roger Craig Smith was going to do the voice of Sonic, because whenever a new Sonic show airs whoever does the in game voices reprise their roles in the show too. It makes me wonder if we'll get a game based around this movie...

The super mario movie has a "it's so bad that it's good" type of rep but sonic is going to be so bad that it it's just bad, it will be like the last airbender with good CGI but have a crappy story with bad acting with only Jim as eggman being the only good thing about this movie just like he's the only good thing about Batman Forever as the riddler. -

I was thinking... what if instead of how he looks in the games they take a more realistic approach so Sonic blends in better with the live action parts? Like less cartoony and you see each individual quill instead of just a couple giant ones and more animal like? Do you think they’d go that route? Would you even like something like that? -

Jim Carrey could pull it off me thinks! He pretty much can play any role and be good at it. His first non comedic movie was weird because I always saw him as the “funny” guy but he did good. But Eggman is always quite humorous in some way or another so I think it’s fitting.
