So we're going to be getting a live action Sonic the Hedgehog film. Today they announced Sonic's voice actor for the movie, Ben Schwartz. He's mostly famous for his role in Parks and Recreation, but has done voice work too. He's known for Dewey in the Ducktales reboot, and currently Leo in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Jim Carrey is going to play Eggman! He's definitely one of my favorite comedians, I think they picked a great actor to play him. James Marsden is going to play Tom Wachowski, the local sheriff of Green Hills.
The plot is mentioned briefly on the the IMDb page, apparently Tom is going to help Sonic escape from the government. The government themselves are after Sonic, of course at this moment in time we have no clue as to why they want to capture Sonic. I'm getting some Sonic X vibes from this myself... I'm also thinking of Sonic Adventure 2 a bit. What are your thoughts about the movie? I think it's cheesy, but I'm definitely going to see it when it's released next year. I love how the movie takes place in Green Hills, which of course is a reference to Sonic 2 8-bit. xD

Government after Sonic? Hmmm that’s similar to Sonic Adventure 2.
As far as the movie goes idk... It just seems too goofy to me and I’m not confident in it or the plot. Reason being it has been delayed so many times and the original film studio sold it off. That’s never a good sign when a movie studio is not confident in a film making money. -

A pic just to put a face to the voice. I think he could pull off a Sonic voice but mangos character in Parks and Rec just makes me see him as not anything related to a kids movie. Rofl -

I think Ben Schwartz will do a great job as Sonic. He’s great in ducktales and rise of the tmnt.
But... Roger Craig Smith was right there. And he probably would’ve loved to do it.

Yeah I got so little enthusiasm for this thing, Games to Movies don't have the best rep and nothing I have seen or read makes me think this will break any ground in that department. -

Jim Carrey just might be eccentric enough to pull off Eggman... err... Robotnik. He’s not referred to as Eggman in the movie. Might cause a little brand confusion, eh?
I agree on game movies not being good. It’s a feat when they don’t downright suck.

It can't be as bad as the Super Mario Bros. movie, right?
Honestly, I was hoping Roger Craig Smith was going to do the voice of Sonic, because whenever a new Sonic show airs whoever does the in game voices reprise their roles in the show too. It makes me wonder if we'll get a game based around this movie...

Between this and the synopsis for the Paul W.S. Anderson-directed Monster Hunter movie, my stance on movies based on video games is firmly cemented as being a bad idea. It's either going to be incredibly weird live action stuff or incredibly out-of-place CGI stuff, or a combination of both. Either way I can't see this as anything other than taking the piss tbh. If Ben Schwartz does his Jean-Ralphio voice I'll officially know this is a joke. -

Haha I guess that’s true. No way it’s as bad as the SMB movie. Or Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Lol
