Forgive the bump, but I was thinking about making a general Resident Evil Series thread and found that, indeed, someone beat me to it nearly 3 years back! And I know in previous forums of days past, there was a moderate discouragement to bump an old thread, but I really feel it silly to make multiple threads of similar theme just because one has gathered a little dust! It's like throwing away an old pair of shoes because you haven't worn them in a couple years. Sure, they're a little dusty, but they are still useful shoes! hehe
Anyway it is refreshing to see discussion of the then upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake! Indeed that one was a fun, amazing remake that hit nearly all the marks!
But I was curious, what is everyone's takes on the series as a whole? I'll detail mine after I see if this thread can hold any interest today, which it might given the release of Resident Evil 8. I will say to start though, I LOVE Resident Evil as a series, but would certainly be categorized as a fan of the older way more so than the newer way. (Original RE2 is my top game in the series, though the 2 Remake comes up nearly tying it now) -

I started the series with the first and loved it on PS1. Never played 2 but eventually got 3 on Dreamcast. Then I got Code Veronica X on PS2. Then RE4. Also got RE5. Skipped 6. Eventually got RE7 when I got my VR headset.
I loved the original games with the tank controls. RE1,3, and Code Veronica were great! Although I never beat them, too hard. RE4 changed up the gameplay but I loved it a ton. One of my favorite PS2 games of all time. Didn't care for RE5, it tried to be RE4 but lost the charm imo. I waited to get PSVR before I even touched RE7 though since it was confirmed for VR at announcement. I was okay waiting however long to experience it in VR. haha I'm going to do the same for RE8. Although it isn't announced for VR, I'm sure it will be made for VR in the future. The demo I played of it was pretty cool though. -

Resident Evil 4 was the first RE game I've played but it's also the first M-rated game I've ever played and the only horror game I actually liked playing at the time. So yeah, I've had a pretty good introduction to the franchise. -

That is a wonderful history, NeoMetallix! I'm in a somewhat similar realm, where Resident Evils 1 and 2 were my introduction to the franchise back in the late 90's. I can't recall which came first for my playing, but I loved (and feared, as I was younger) both games. I've beaten Resident Evil's 1 and 2 on the PS, never 3 though. I've watched someone beat it when I was younger but never could pull it off myself, as Nemesis made it difficult for me! Code Veronica was also wonderful, but sadly have yet to beat that one as well! Resident Evil 4 was most definitely a masterpiece! It wasn't my favorite of the bunch simply because I adore the old style and Resident Evil 2 brought it to me in the best way I could imagine, but I totally get why most regard 4 as the top spot! For a horror action game it really can't be topped!
I also didn't much care for 5, and skipped 6, though I may return to it as to get the story beats out of it. While it was definitely a let down game, the story does carry forward from there to 7 and 8, so I best keep myself informed since I love the franchise! I imagine 7 in VR would be just an ADVENTURE, and I wish I could manage that myself. Someday, I will give it a go! Same with 4! (They are getting that to go VR soon I've heard whispers of).
I'm glad you enjoyed Resident Evil 4, Infinite! I will caution you that the older games are a different style completely, emphasizing more on the horror and strategy, with item management, puzzle solving and ammo conservation being key elements, but I can say that Resident Evil 4 would never have been what it was without that backbone behind it, so I think you'll stand a good chance at enjoying those games! As far as beyond 4, it'll probably be spotty, though even the games many don't enjoy, some find exciting. Maybe you would be a big fan of RE6 and that would be awesome! I'm almost certain though that you'll enjoy 7 and 8 if you get to play them at some point!!

I still haven't played Resident Evil 8 or the RE4 remake. I really want to try the remake of 4 though. -

I've wanted to play resident evil for a much long time, but I can't afford it as my job is to simply mow lawns, and seeing it is wintertime, my job has no purpose for now. I'll someday get that game... -

Hey that's what I used to do! For a school. Winter was for catchingup on repairing sprinklers. But alas, I know that'snot the same. Well someday, maybe summertime?
