Wade was annoying as all hell, for a show called Knuckles, Knuckles was barely in it. The big dance/play scene in the fourth episode (which coincidentally is where I stopped watching) made me question if the writers were on drugs, product placement like you wouldn't believe (suddenly I have a hankering to eat cool ranch doritos while shopping on facebook marketplace). I mean, couldn't we have gotten a show where Knuckles had to find the Master Emerald with the help from some colorful characters, hmmm, maybe a crocodile and a chameleon? Idk, just throwing ideas out there.I 100% agree with you here. The show has many problems, and I don't even know where to start.

Of course there's no way to know for sure because I can never be a kid again, but even as a child who was obsessed with Sonic, I still don't think I would have liked this show.
You can tell most of the writers for the show never played a Sonic game, but I think the problem actually goes a lot deeper than that.
I think every problem in the show stems from the fact that most of the writers didn't even watch the movies.
And you can tell this because of how often the show contradicts them. For instance, there's a song about Knuckles that plays at the end of the second episode, and it begins with "He's a big red warrior who came from outer space on a mission to destroy the freaking human race". This is just blatantly incorrect. In the second film, Knuckles came to Earth to hunt Sonic, and never had anything against a single human (Robotnik aside). But whoever wrote the song/episode had no idea about this because they probably didn't watch the movies. And this is a reoccurring thing in the show. Knuckles' dad fights the owls alongside Knuckles, which contradicts the films, where he tells Knuckles to stay behind.
And so, because most of the writers never played the games or watched the movies, they only had vague ideas about the characters, and what fans wanted from the show. I'd be surprised if half the writing staff even knew who Rouge the Bat was.
Incidentally, the first episode is by far the best, and that's because it was the only episode directed by Jeff Fowler, the director of both films.
Now, regardless of what you or I think of the series, it quickly rocketed up to being the most popular show on the service, and there are rumors floating about that Paramount wants to work on a Shadow TV series. If that actually happens, I'm just hoping something changes, because the Knuckles series left a very bad tase in my mouth for so many reasons.
