  I do recall seeing the comics of old growing up and indeed some of the art styles were, a thing. Though, I feel like sometimes nobody really knew a solid way to draw Sonic in the older era. Even today sometimes he is done dirty in his art style. I recently saw a Sonic Plush at Target, and perhaps you've seen this, where it was meant to be Classic Sonic, and they only gave him spikes on one side of his body. It was the most awkward thing I've seen in years for the franchise, and yet it did remind me of some of the more goofy artistic renderings of the early to mid 90's, before the Adventure series solidified a more consistent 3-D Sonic rendering.

  I used to collect the Sonic Archie comics. I had issue 25 to about 90 before I stopped.
  
  Somehow they got lost in all my moves. I don't know where they are anymore.

  Don't feel too bad...a lot of mine got ruined. There's a site where you can read them (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here though and you have to beware of ads).
  
  Is it me or does Titan Tails remind me of Captain Super Foxman? I always thought it was cute how Tails had a big imagination...he was still a kid after all...and I was close to his age at the time of reading it so I could relate to him a lot. When I was little I related to Tails more, then I got older and related to Knuckles more. I actually enjoyed the stories back then, but as an adult I just look back and think...wtf was I reading?
  
  Sonic is and always will be my hero, and despite how odd and unique Archie was they'll always have a special charm and special place in my heart as a Sonic fan.
  
  As a side note...sometimes you can get lucky and find random issues at Ollie's. They're usually in comic packs with other comics.

  I don't read a lot of the comics but I really have to admire the creativity of the Fleetway comics. They really took some very interesting interpretations of what the Genesis games showed. Like with Super Sonic becoming a menace to society rather than just a super version of Sonic.
  
  
  
  And I do believe Fleetway was the only comic series that used the Sonic Bible as a basis for Sonic's backstory.

  Evil Super Sonic is interesting...but I also like Sonic just powering up...like a hedgehog version of a Super Sayajin.
  
  I thought of a way to incorporate both in my fanfiction...should I ever get around to writing/finishing any of it.
  
  Basically...it depends on if Sonic's using the positive or negative energies of the chaos emeralds. Personal headcanon. It might be interesting if Sonic has a little trouble controlling the emeralds power at first, allowing him to be corrupted by them, not unlike in Archie where Dimitri became corrupted and turned into Enerjak.
  
  But I dunno. That's just my take on it.

  So, with Sonic using the negative emotions of the chaos emeralds, do you have Dark Sonic in mind? To be fair, he didn't use the chaos emeralds to go to that form but he was definitely VERY ticked off and seemed to be a lot stronger.

  Probably Archie. Archie certainly had its ups and downs, but once it found its footing, it became the piece of Sonic media with the richest worldbuilding out there.

  this is a really difficult one for me bcuz both series have different parts of them that I like...
  
  I love IDW's side stories, the classic-era comics that they've published so far are some of my favourite sonic comics right now, I also really enjoyed Scrapnik Island a lot too! I'm always so happy seeing new IDW stuff, all the new artists and writers they've taken on show how much passion and talent is within the sonic fandom
  
  but I find myself coming back to Archie more... I'm always rereading Archie from beginning all the way to the end, both mainline Sonic and Universe, whereas with IDW I just read the newest issues and reread issues 50~56 which I think has most of my favourite scenes in it
  
  I think with Archie, I'm more invested in the world of Mobius and the Freedom Fighters than I am with the world they have established in IDW currently, the Egg Bosses in post-SGW Archie were some of my favourite characters and showed off Eggman's character beautifully in my opinion
