Heheh, even though it was somehow proven that it was possible to play as Knuckles in Sonic 1. Just wasn't made with Knuckles in mind.

Still would be cool to play as Knuckles in Sonic 1! Closest we get to that is Sonic Mania 😆

By proven, do you mean someone managed to get the carts to communicate somehow in that way? I can't imagine so, but I know in more recent years, there have been hacks of Sonic 1 that added Knuckles in. The biggest issue I think they had with it in the days of the Genesis was the color palettes. Having a red character would have messed up a lot of colors in the game, so they didn't find it worth while and just left it to only work with Sonic 2 (and 3 of course but that was the initial intention hehe).

Yeah, those must've been what I was thinking of. Can't recall where I heard that bit of information from so yeah 😆

Fair, fair. And this day and age, what with flash carts and crafty individuals and sometimes editing tricks, someone could easily take to Youtube or a blog and make it seem as though they did make Sonic 1's original cart work with S&K to have Knuckles playable in Sonic 1. Though, I'm not sure whey they'd bother going to all that trouble for that, when they could instead just get 20 S&K carts and play Sonic & Knuckles & Knuckles & Knuckles & Knuckles & Knuckles.... hehehe

Or they could just do what SomeCallMeJohnny did and combine ALL the Sonic games to play Sonic 3CD &Knuckles&Knuckles.

Yep. It was at the end of the "Month of Sonic 2" review marathon he did waaaaaaaaay back when (10 YEARS AGO!) It was a good joke video too. 

Oh heavens that was great! Not just for what it was, but it has the editing style of a video of that era. That silly thing where another reviewer "interacts" with the main person despite being obviously pre-filmed in their own room or area! hehe

Also, I think Sonic 3CD & Knuckles & Knuckles sounds absolutely amazing and I would love to play that game! They need to port it onto the Switch ASAP hehehehehe

OMG IT IS SO BAD IT'S GOOD! And a boss fight with Colin Mochrie from Whose Line??? Okay, I will have to get my hands on this and actually play it. This is a must now. Best fan game. 10/10! Would play forever! Hehehe
