I don’t and didn’t know they had an app for that. How do they get away with that?! -

That's wild. Wasn't there a similar thing back on the Dreamcast with PS1 games? Bleem, I believe it was called. Somehow they won the court case -

Yup it was Bleem. I remember thinking at the time, “If DC owners want to play PS games why not just get a PS1.” Lol but it was cool. I used to have CFW on my PSP and it was so cool because it was a portable PS1. Any PS1 game could be played. Now that the Vita is dead I wouldn’t mind getting one with CFW. It’s the best portable hardware created imo. Dual sticks, great screen, and can fit in a pocket(albeit barely). -

If it’s games that are no longer being sold I’m cool with it but just being poor doesn’t give the right to piracy imo. Developers who work hard deserve compensation.
See, this argument has always been weird to me. Yes, ROMs are illegal, and yes, developers deserve to be compensated for their effort, but we have an entire market devoted to second-hand games; a market where the developers get squat and the only real difference between a ROM and a second-hand game is that someone had paid the developers at some point. With the prevalence of stores like EB Games/Gamestop, consoles' lack of backwards compatibility (which has always been bizarre to me; every art medium respects its own history, almost every art medium keeps its old entries up-to-date. Video games are the only ones who don't do that to the same degree), and the scarcity of certain old titles, the fact that ROMs are illegal seems like more a matter of principle and control than any moral or justifiable wrong. I think Jim Sterling says it much better:

Well that’s the KEY differentiator, used games got bought by someone at some point. It’s different than old games no longer on the market. If we’re talking about games that can still be bought through official means I don’t think it’s right to be able to get it for free whereas used games still gave the developers some money but pirating it gives them nothing. That said the push for digital is a push for eliminating used games and eventually locking out most old games from being accessible to emulators although some hackers will always be able to bypass security eventually.
Piracy is a huge factor in the death of the Dreamcast and the reason why so many PSP games were cancelled. -

A dev called Bonga Software created an app called xbrowse, on the surface it looks like a web browser but holding the left and right triggers at the same time reveals a hidden multi emulator menu.
Microsoft aproved the app thinking it was just a web browser. lol -

This thread is old but I should clarify RomsMania should NOT be your new destination for ROMs. As people have pointed out, it's a little sketchy; it's one of those sites that gives you a .exe file when you download a game.
For me personally, I go to edge|emulation for all of my ROMs, and I go to CDRomance for all of my ISOs. CDRomance has ads on every download, but you just have to close them and all the downloads are .zip files, same as edge|emu or emuparadise, if you were in the emulation scene back when it was still up.
You can lock this thread now, just want to clear that up as I just stumbled onto it and it annoyed me a little. -
