Reviving An Old Franchise
Zamau > 08-26-2018, 05:32 AM
With Shenmue 1 & 2 being released in HD along with a sequel, what will soon be released. Also Beyond Good & Evil getting a sequel many years after the first game. Should other gaming franchises get a reboot or sequel?
One game series I liked was Dino Crisis. I played the first two games, but not the third. I have Dino Crisis 3, but I heard it wasn't very good. Anyway the first two games on the PS1 were awesome and I hope there will be a HD version of the games, or a sequel to the third game. Maybe there could be a reboot of the whole series.
What old gaming series would you like to see make a return? -

It really depends on the series and how well they do it. I find most revivals are somewhat lacking. A prime example of this being the franchise I'd like to see revived: Breath of Fire. It had a revival as a browser based game for Breath of Fire 6 which... wasn't very good. I'd personally like to see a modern day version of something like Breath of Fire 3, which I consider the best in the series for gameplay.
The same can be said for a lot of old Capcom franchises honestly. But I'm well aware most of them won't be so I'm not about to hold my breath. -

I loved Dino Crisis but yeah 3 sucked big time and they foolishly made it exclusive to Xbox which killed the franchise.
It really depends on if they do a good job but how long are we talking what’s the definition of an old franchise? I don’t know if it counts but I would love a new Twisted Metal. Last one was early 2012 which is only 6 years ago but they’ve only had two console games since 2001.
For a really old one I’d like a reboot of the Driver series. The first two were awesome on PS1 but the third was glitchy and rushed. I always preferred it over the GTA games because it had way better driving physics and cop chases were intense.
The next reboot I’m looking forward to is Medievil. Can’t wait to see how they handle that remake. I’m hoping it’s pretty true to the original. They announced it last December but we haven’t heard anything since. -

I just picked up Shenmue 1 and 2 this morning, and as somebody with no Shenmue experience whatsoever, I've been sucked in. Can't wait to go back for more tomorrow.
That said, about an eighth of my playthrough has just been Space Harrier

Klonoa. Definitely Klonoa.
The last game came out in like...2007, 2008 I think? It was a pretty crummy remake of the first game. There's also a movie in production, but it's been over a year since we heard a war on that so the franchise has officially been radio silent since then if you count the movie, and a decade or more if you don't. -

I really wish I had played these games when they came out. In 1999 Shenmue was doing unheard of things! I should try it. Have you tried Yakuza @"Dopey" ?

It’s a series I never got into but always sad I missed. I remember seeing it on PS1 but never tried it. I’m always down for more platformers though. -

No, I haven't but I know what I'm missing out on, I think.
Klonoa definitely needs a new game. I've never played a single Klonoa game but the ending of Door to Phantomile still had me in tears.
I've never played one myself, but as far as I'm aware it's been quite some time since we've had a proper Bioware Star Wars RPG, right? I get that nowadays considering EA and the AAA gaming industry it would be a botch job with half the game locked by paywalls but it would be nice to see, I guess. -

A remake of Landstalker would be nice and Comix Zone.
