  Does anyone think Sonic Mania could be included in the discussion? Although it's on modern consoles and pc, it looks like a classic Sonic game, and it seems to take place after Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

  
  You know I don’t think I’ve ever beaten it either. I got to the last boss and lost my last life so I just used cheat codes to jump to that boss. It is hard to control though, very floaty. The creator released an unofficial patch for the PC version to make it easier though.

  One of the things I found tough in Sonic 3D were the special stages. They were done in the same view as the game, so it was a challenge to get by the spikes as well as trying not to fall. The special stage in Sonic 3D might be the toughest out of all the classic Sonic games.

  You know what pisses me off about Sega? They rerelease the classics all the time but never Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The last time that was released in a collection was Sonic Mega Collection Plus on PS2. They also released both individually on XBLA and if you had both you could lock them on digitally. They never released that for PSN though and their next collection, Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection has both games but no way to combine them. Now their latest collection doesn’t even have S3&K or S&K.
  
  I heard that it was due to the music licensing but I mean they released them both with original music in 2010 so I doubt it’s that.

  Yeah, the way I understand it (and by that I mean from Stealth's blog) the music situation definitely plays into it.
  Which isn't a good look for anyone involved, Sega for not securing the rights to the music for their own game, and Brad Buxer (?) for being this angry 24 years later.
  
  I'm not sure the music is the sole reason, but it's definitely a factor.

  But it doesn’t make sense to me. People say they lost the rights because of Michael Jackson so the PC version had different music but they released it with all the original music 8 years ago so they must have had rights to release it.
  
  I’d like a Taxman rerelease on consoles of S3&K.

  It can't be the music or sega would have removed the game from xbla already but the game is still up on xbox 360 and is now backwards compatible on xbox one.

  The last release of S3K was in 2011 on Steam, about a year before the legal issues started to arise.
  
  Making it backwards compatible on Xbox One technically isn't a new release.

  True but the fact that it's there for sega to continue to get money from it proves that music isn't the problem or else the game would have been taken down.
