There doesn't seem to be much info on the chaos emeralds, and after Sonic Forces with the Super Sonic DLC, they might not be needed anymore. The earliest you see the chaos emeralds is in the past in Sonic Adventure with the echidna tripe, and there are seven emeralds along with the master emerald, but in the first Sonic game you can only find six chaos emeralds. The origin of the chaos emeralds is unknown, were they created? Or were they found?

I’m not sure. I always figured they were natural and had to be found like gold in real life only more rare. It’s funny though, for something so rare they’re always able to find them.

I remember reading somewhere several years ago that the Chaos Emeralds were gifts from the Gods or something to that effect, and with their connection to the Master Emerald I always just kinda rolled with that and assumed they were there to keep the universe in balance.

I wish there was more about the chaos emeralds. Sonic Adventure told some info on the emeralds, but that was it. No other game has gone into history about the chaos emeralds. Their history could go back even before the time of the echidna tribe, and the chaos creature could of existed before then too.
