Shadow, Rouge and Omega hurtle through the inscrutable expanse of Null Space, struggling to gain any sense of direction in the anomalous space.
"Shadow, Omega! We will not survive this unless we group together!" Rouge yells, voice echoing strangely in the void surrounding them.
"Activate Hyperboost, GO!" Omega declares, utilizing an almost never-considered function in his arsenal: one that runs a high risk of draining most of his energy and possibly damaging him due to the overwhelming power draw required. Omega launches forward, straining against inscrutable force vectors until finally reaching Rouge and Shadow, pulling them into a firm grip.
Shadow briefly casts a concerned look at Omega before furrowing his brow. He had to focus. Once they were out of this, then they could worry about Omega. Rouge passes him an emerald, stashed away for only the worst of emergenices. He takes it, immediately readying himself for a tremendous exertion. "Chaos Control, ACTIVATE!"
Shadow's emerald glows brighter and brighter... and then fades. Team Dark continues to tumble through the void. Rouge stares in disbelief. "I don't understand..."
Shadow frowns. An image appears at the distant shores of memory, gaining clarity by the second. Sonic and Rookie, retelling their adventures in Nullspace. They only escaped through Double Boosting... through working as a team.
"My power is useless here. I cannot do this alone." Shadow grabs Rouge's hand, and Omega's, while Omega continues to use one arm to hold both of them in a strong grip.
"Together. We must do this together if we wish to escape this madness." Shadow stares at Rouge with determination, and she nods in return. "AFFIRMATIVE," Omega confirms.
Shadow tenses his muscles, muttering under his breath. "This better work..." Rouge grips his hand tighter. "Team Dark..." she begins. "CHAOS," Shadow responds. "CONTROL!" Omega concludes.
The chaos emerald begins to glow, as a bright light grows across the trio. The light brightened until they could see nothing but endless luminosity, and suddenly they were tumbling through a dark forest, landing with a crash on the moss below.
Omega laid down, the first time Rouge and Shadow had ever seen him exhibit tiredness. "ENERGY LEVEL 5%. ETA FOR BATTLE READINESS, 48 HOURS." Omega declared, straining with the effort.
"That settles it," Rouge responded. "We're going to camp here for the night." Shadow nodded in silent agreement, and proceeded to help Rouge forage for supplies and build up a basic shelter for the team to pass the night.
As Rouge lay sleeping, and Omega lay silently recharging. Shadow paces around the makeshit campsite, restless thoughts boiling over in his mind. He glanced back at his emerald, resting safely by Rouge. It barely shone a dull glow, as the ripple of a wave lightly addressed by a distant fish uninterested in breaking the surface. He knew he would have to pay a visit to Knuckles soon. They could not keep using Chaos Control indefinitely without recharging the emerald at its source.
He stopped pacing, and stared angrily across the soft canopy shrouded by night, resting upon the murmurs of mysterious animals and the occasional cry of a faraway creature. Infinite. He must be stopped at all costs. He must be stopped before the Doctor accomplishes his goals. Adrift in a sea of thoughts, he contemplates until the soft early light of morning peaks through the density of nature. He walks back to his companions.
"Rouge, Omega!" he declares, rousting them from their rest. "Now is the time for us to defeat Infinite once and for all. He must not be permitted to enable the Doctor's plans."
Rouge nods in solemn understanding. "ENERGY LEVEL 25%. INSUFFICIENT TO ASSIST. ROUGE AND SHADOW GO ON. OMEGA WILL ARRIVE WITH FULL FORCE." Rouge pats him on the head, promising to return first if they can. She grabs Shadow's hand, ready for departure.
"CHAOS CONTROL!" he yells, using Rouge's emerald to teleport to Infinite's current location. He snarls at their appearance, but before he can strike, Shadow removes his power limiters and lunges forward, sending Infinite soaring with horrific force. Shadow grabs the emerald, teleports with Rouge to Omega, and then teleports the three of them to Angel Island.
Knuckles spies from a distance, frowning at the sudden intrusion but walking briskly to meet them. He pondered the reason for their appearance, quietly muttering to himself "Shadow... he never shows up unless something has gone horribly wrong. I better radio the others too."
