  The compilation was originally announced in May 2021 during Sega‘s Sonic Central presentation, which also revealed Sonic Colours Ultimate and teased a next-gen Sonic game, which would later become known as Sonic Frontiers.
  
  The Korean ratings board has classified the game for ‘all users’, which is somewhat unsurprising given that it’s a compilation of 16-bit Sonic games.
  
  What makes the interesting notable is that it’s one of the first things anyone’s heard about Sonic Origins since that original May 2021 announcement.
  
  Sonic Origins is a retro compilation which includes the following games/font]

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3
    
    
  • Sonic & Knuckles
    

  In an interview last year with Japanese website 4Gamer, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka confirmed that the games in Sonic Origins wouldn’t be running on an emulator, but would instead be completely new ports.

  [font=Lato, sans-serif]This would allow the games to be presented in 16:9 widescreen and have other tweaks and modifications, similar to the critically acclaimed mobile ports released by Christian Whitehead (who would go on to work on Sonic Mania). The games appear to use Retro Engine, a game engine created by Whitehead for these mobile ports.

  Awesome, it should be here soon. My guess is sometime in summer. I already have Sonic 3 A.I.R. but I'll get this for the other games getting the same upgrades.

  I believe It does allow Sonic 3 & Knuckles as I read It somewhere. It’s running on a completely new engine I believe and I am looking forward to playing this game on my Xbox Series X. I reckon a summer release as well

  Ah, yes! I just went and looked it up and the lock on version is available on this. I'm looking forward to the new engine as well and maybe it'll pave the way for a Mania 2 at some point.
