Played a little Sonic Adventure on my Dreamcast tonight. I like to play through the whole game every few years or so, usually around Christmas. I think I could sit and play Emerald Coast all day lol. Love the blue sky and beach setting. The music is pure bliss too. Dreamcast games tend to be bright and colorful and the graphics just jump off the screen in a way that I don't think many other old systems do.

I think this is one of those games that I don't think I will ever get tired of playing. Still going strong 20 plus years!

For a while, I had actually preferred Sonic Adventure 1 over the sequel. That has since changed as I've gotten more into the mechanical nuances of SA2 and really sunk my teeth in optimizing it as much as I can, but I can't deny Adventure 1 is still a cozy game to come back to.

It's not a game I'm particularly interested in getting insanely good at but it's just so full of life and fun to just run around in that it's my go-to pick if I want something Sonic to just immerse myself in.

Adventure 1 is also a game I highly respect for it's ambition in wanting to do good on its own name with all the levels and characters that try and go for different experiences.

I'm one of those people who actually really like Big's story and even go back to some of his levels because I love how in this Sonic game, I can play as the entirely unimportant character of Big the Cat doing the entirely unimportant task of fishing because it makes me really feel part of this world rather than just speeding through it all. There's this one hidden cave area in Big's Emerald Coast that I believe Froggy never spawns in, so it's entirely pointless to go in there if you just wanna be done with Big's story as fast as you can, but I find myself willingly going in that cave to catch the fish there just for the sake of it and, again, I love how a Sonic game lets me do that.

That's not even mentioning how Adventure 1 has one of my favorite Sonic soundtracks overall and the modding potential you get with the Steam release (including playing the otherwise unavailable Christmas DLC, by the by). And even still, I just opt to playing with just the Dreamcast conversion mod because man, does the original Dreamcast version look pretty, specially for the time.

Also the janky cutscenes. I love them to death and quote them all the time.

"That's Eggman! I wonder what happened to Sonic?" Idea

oh, i adore sonic adventure. the janky cutscenes are so delightful. and i really like the story its telling, too. chaos is definitely one of my favorite characters, it's such a cool antagonist

and as much as i love sa2, i have to say i much prefer sa1 for its hub worlds. there's this atmosphere to them that makes them feel so alive, and it's a nice break between the action stages to just run around in them. and it makes the chao gardens feel more like actual places too, rather than just a level you can visit

I definitely know the feeling, it's hard for me to put into words but even though I find myself replaying SA2 100x more than Adventure, Adventure really is that cozy little game I come back to and feel like I'm back at a point in life when "things were more simple" almost
there's just smth special about Sonic and co. going through the forests of Mystic Ruins where trees are taller than you can see over, getting to visit Ice Cap from S3K again with even more snowboarding, Tails even getting to sand board in his campaign, wandering around the city and talking to ppl and finding out Amy has an apartment downtown in Station Square...

yeah, the HUB worlds add a nice layer of pacing to Adventure that help w/ that cozy feeling  Idea in SA2 you can exit the story at any time and quit/stage select/etc, but sometimes it's nice to wander off and talk to NPCs, explore all the areas of the Egg Carrier; even now I still like walking around these HUB worlds to get to stages I don't find myself navigating the menus as much bcuz walking around is just much more enjoyable (especially Amy's movement, it's so satisfying)

Ayyy! I didn't even talk about the hubs but they're where I spend most of my time with Adventure revisits, and mostly with Amy as well, just pole-vaulting all over the place.

It was with loitering around the hub worlds with Amy that I find out she can get dizzy if you use her hammer spin move for too long and you can walk around in that state for a short while. Really makes me wish there was a mod out there for permanent Dizzy Amy for challenge runs or something... Hmmm

I've been scouring the web for all sorts of cool mods. On PC you can restore all of the missing DC effects that were lost in the ports.

Replaying Sonic Adventure has been really enjoyable! I’ve not played it since the PS3 release but this time I’m back on the Dreamcast version (the models do look so much better).

I’ve beaten Sonic’s Adventure and I’m deep into Tails’. I can’t wait to get to E-102 Gamma’s. It was my favourite as a kid and I miss him! Always preferred him to Omega.

I’m playing this as part of my plan to play all main Sonic games in 2025 (as well as some extras). Will probably write a review when I’m done to try and attempt to put my thoughts down on paper. It’s hard to try and give unbiased thoughts on a game I hold such nostalgia for though!

Adventure 1 was always my favorite over Adventure 2. I loved how the 6 stories merged into 1 storyline. I especially loved Knuckles' and Amy. E-102 Gamma and Big's too. I liked the Sonic levels, but I don't feel the same spark with Sonic much anymore, soooo-
I will say, Speed Highway and Sky Deck are two of my favorites. : D

Yeah the ports of Adventure weren't very good. They did have higher poly character models but messed up so much more that it didn't look nearly as good. Same with Adventure 2.

Sky Deck! Loved that one! A bit glitchy, but still enjoyable, especially the spot with all of the boost pads.
