Sega to create movies from "Space Channel 5," "Comix Zone"

So, there might be a "Sega Cinematic Universe" after all.
Sega has revealed that they are considering giving two cult classics - Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone- the Sonic movie treatment.
Also, there are talks about a Streets of Rage film, from the creator of the John Wick series as well. (EDIT: according to this article, a script is being written for the film by Derek Kolstad who is the creator of John Wick.)
There's even a brief synopsis (courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter) of the aforementioned two films!
Quote:"[Space] Channel 5, a comedy/dance adaptation of the cult-classic 1999 dance game, will tell the story of a hapless fast-food worker who is recruited by a freedom reporter from the future to save the world from aliens using the one thing that unites all people on the planet: our love of silly viral dances."
"[Comix] Zone, an adaptation of the cult console game, follows a jaded comic book creator and a young, queer writer of color who, when sucked into the final issue of his popular series, must put aside their differences to stop a dangerous supervillain from sowing complete destruction. In the process, they wittily explore the ever-evolving art of storytelling itself."
So, with these descriptions, these movies aren't exactly going to be 1:1. But hey, look at the Sonic movies and how they turned out. Stranger things have happened after all.
But anyway, what are your takes on these three Sega titles getting the silver screen treatment? Drop a line!

I hope they'll create movies based on Vectorman or Burning Rangers at some point. The latter one especially has lots of potential.
I actually had a rough idea for a Burning Rangers film. It would star Tom from the Sonic films, and he would be hired by GUN as part of the newly formed "Burning Rangers" unit to investigate mysterious fires appearing in San Francisco. The idea was that they could tie it into the Sonic films by introducing the Ifrit (you know, that thing from Sonic Rivals 2) as the antagonist (the Burning Rangers game actually doesn't have an antagonist), along with maybe Blaze the Cat to keep with the fire theme. It was a cheesy film idea I made, but I still do wish Sega would try something like that. -

Hmmm....sounds nice! Burning Rangers being a Sonic movie spinoff? Count me in!
As someone who played Vectorman 1 and 2 a whole bunch, I can definitely see a movie based on the green Orbot sludge barge pilot. It has everything- a dystopian future setting (Orbot overseer becomes overlord and tries to take over the human race) and the fact that our hero MORPHS INTO VARIOUS THINGS makes for a fun time. That's Sci-Fi at its best.
Now, for a follow-up. Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone CAN work, but they need to follow the formula that made everyone fall in love with the two Sonic movies. It's a nice touch to include other settings and to have some kind of grounding in the real world, but they shouldn't be relied on too much. Having said that, I think Space Channel 5 is in danger of doing just that. Still, not gonna put my chao eggs in one basket here, purely speculation.
