  Started replaying Sonic Heroes as I replay many Sonic games every year and yay! This time I get to replay a good Sonic game! I've always been a big supporter of Sonic Heroes. It's secretly one of the best games in the series and was certainly the finest 3D Sonic game before Colours came along. A massive step up from the Sonic Adventure games. Been years since I've played it though and I'm really looking forward to revisiting more of it.
  
  So here we go. Played the first bunch of stages. Yeah this is the game I remember. Bright, colourful, creative and just plain fun. The team mechanic is well done and these stages are just sublime. Played the first 6 stages and first 3 bosses. Loved every main stage so far in different ways. From Seaside Hill to Grand Metropolis to Casino Park. The aesthetic of Sonic Heroes is so good, and the music is so on point.
  
  The boss fights have been.....less good. Not frustrating or anything but they're not good. First boss was literally just chase it until it stops then mash the attack button until it dies. Second boss was against Team Rose and it's just spam one move over and over again until you win. The other boss was just beat a bunch of waves of enemies, which was fine but not anything exciting.
  
  I actually really like the more lighthearted tone this game goes for. It makes me smile. Some of the dialogue has been....fun. "Sonic, this time there's no way out of marrying me!" Then when you beat the stage....."Marriage?! No way!" I love it. It's corny as hell but I love it.
  
  I've only got one chaos emerald so far and just as I remember, the special stages in Heroes are bowl of poo. Not Advance series level bowl of poo, but still bowl of poo. Still I appreciate the fact this game has special stages at all and it makes me sad that no other 3D Sonic game has had them. 
  
  I expect minmal frustration from this Sonic play going forward, and that's going to be refreshing coming straight off my horrific 06 and Unleashed playthroughs. So far so good!

  Sonic Heroes is one of the most underappreciated games in the series. Whether you like the team mechanic, you gotta admit the game itself is very polished in terms of design and aesthetic, more well put together than the Adventure games technically.

  Exactly! The levels are just oozing with atmosphere and the gameplay in general is good. Aside from the rail levels which I always die at least once because I missed a rail. Lol

  Sonic Heroes is a good game, but underrated. I thought all the stages were good, apart from Bingo Highway, which I died many times on. I thought the boss fights were pretty cool, especially Metal Overlord. I also liked that you had to get the chaos emeralds in special stages, so it made it a challenge to get to the final boss.

  The return of the special stages was welcomed! I missed them in the Adventure games. I also liked how levels had branching paths again and were more colorful.

  I do enjoy Sonic Heroes and I do recall good memories about that game! There are a few things that bothered me about it that I wish they can improve one. Like the controls, more specifically, how slippery it can be at times and when doing the rail grinding on certain levels that doesn't respond properly. As well as, depending on the team you choose, there can be some levels that can be tiring to complete, like some of Team Chaotix and Team Sonic levels. And of course, the Gamecube version is the most stable since supposedly the game on the other versions is a mess. But I could be wrong
  
  Otherwise though, it is a good game and is one of those games that people forgotten about. I do miss playing it

  The PS2 version is stable it just runs at 30fps instead of 60. Not sure about the Xbox version but since the GC and Xbox were closer in power it’s probably 60 as well but not as stable.

  I've had my share of experience with Sonic Heroes. Whether it's been a joy or my worse nightmare, I'll have to say nether. 
  The game has sure a lot of charm, but way to many times did I die on rails, so frustrating when I tried to accomplish overall A or was it S back then. Can't remember, as it's been many years since I had a go at this. 
  Boss fights were a bit meh, apart from the final boss, which is still the best so far. Hands down, most have been rehash's, or similar to it, but this had at least an enjoyable team mechanic. And of course, with Metallix turning into what appeared much a dragon, is hands down awesome in my book. 
  
  Another frustrating, yet occasionally enjoyable was Team Chaotix. Some of the searching missions, specially in the Bingo Highway. Others I didn't mind as much, but they dragged on sometimes way to much, sometime spending almost an hour each stage. THAT'S NOT COOL! 
  Music in the game was brilliant, at least the majority. But yeah, maybe I should one day try and replay the game for it's nostalgia, have the Xbox version.

  I first completed the game on the PS2. I didn't notice a difference between the PS2 and GameCube versions of the game, but I haven't played much of the GameCube version.
  
  Anyway the final boss fight is awesome. Super Sonic along with Tails and Knuckles fighting a transformed Metal Sonic, and you have the song What I'm Made Of by Crush 40 in the background.

  I think it might just be performance issues really. I heard the GameCube was the best and the PS2 was the worst. But the differences are probably really minor.
