  Back in the day a lot of gaming magazines had a new demo collection every month. You could often get them for free from game stores as well. Early 360/PS3 gen you could download demos but they weren't quite as frequent but by the end of that era and PS4/Xbox 1 there were almost no demos and these days a demo is almost non existent. We get a lot of "betas" for popular games like COD which aren't the same as demos but are treated like demos by these companies. I just wish we had more options to try games before you buy.

  My main experience with demos comes from the Wii. There was a channel simply called the Nintendo Channel if I remember correctly. It would give demos for DS games like Kirby Mass Attack. I thought those were quite neat.

  As I sit here, typing this out, I am looking at a couple of those very demo discs from the original PS1. I kept a few of them. Nothing too special sadly. My favorite one was the one that let you play the first level and world of Spyro the Dragon! That was FANTASTIC!

  Oh yeeee demo discs. I remember I ordered Metroid Prime 2 on eBay but, little did I know, I accidentally ordered the bonus disc that came with Metroid Prime which was just a demo for Metroid Prime 2. So that was a funny experience I had with demo discs.

  Oof, I suspect that was a painful let down! Did they list it as the full game and everything? Or was it one of those 'Oh, maybe it WAS too good to be true' kind of things with a super low price?

  Oh I had that demo! It was also included in Crash Warped!

  Oh yes I forgot about that being on there! Only because I think we purchased Warped at the time of release so I never felt need to load the demo of it. Where as with Spyro, I didn't buy the first game until the 3rd was nearly out.

  Back in the day, when my brothers and I got the Dreamcast, we didn't have any games when we first got it, but had this demo disc. It had Sonic Adventure, Power Stone, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and maybe a couple other games. The demo allowed us to only play Emerald Coast as Sonic, but we probably played it hundreds of times until we got the game a short time after. We didn't purchase Power Stone or Ready 2 Rumble boxing, so we'd always come back to the demo disc to play those.
  
  On a side note, I remember the first time seeing and playing SA1 was in Epcot at Disney World. In the old Innoventions. It was of Sonic in the Mystic Ruins adventure field and I remember being amazed at the "realistic" graphics at the time. Eventually SEGA went away at Innoventions, but I always thought that was a great platform back then for gaming companies to showcase their games and hardware. Especially with how many kids go to Disney parks.

  That sounds like a good demo. I played the SA1 demo at Circuit City which was only Emerald Coast. I was also amazed at the graphics at the time. I still only had a PS1 so it blew those blocky pixelated graphics away and PS2 still wasn't out yet. Good times.
  
  I'd probably play more games if demos were still commonplace. I don't see why developers don't do them more often, it'd probably lead to more sells.
