PS5 just broke another record, it has sold 7.8 million consoles worldwide as of March 31st which is the end of its first fiscal year. Previous record holder was PS4 at 7.6 million launch aligned. Pretty insane for being in a pandemic and with most people still not even being able to get their hands on one.

While I'm not much of a Playstaion person myself, I can see the appeal this round! It has a lot going for it compared to some previous generations, and the overall family of Playstaion consoles have boasted many modern day amazing game series. With the nostalgic push of the modern day and many remakes and rereleases being a staple for many of us (aging) gamers (it saddens me to admit this, by the way, but alas, aging is valid for me) Playstation has had a few choice exclusives to help usher more attention, alongside many amazing newer series and the means of keeping up with the Jones's by always having the cross platform games ready to go! I've been tempted to look into getting one of these for the older game selection I've heard rumor about on the virtual store, though given how quickly scarce each restock gets, the price point, and the fact that I'm a bit behind on games I own, I think I can wait it out before I let curiosity take me. Besides, my XBox One is doing dandy for now. This isn't to say I'm a big XBox fan, I just was lucky that my brother had an extra to sell me for $50, so I take what I can afford! haha -

Y'know, part of me is wondering what percent of that 7.8 million is thanks to scalpers
. But I am honestly waiting for the PS4 price to drop now that the PS5 is out. I am not really interested in the PS5 at the moment as the only game that really caught my interest was Spider-Man Miles Morales.

PS4 being $299 retail still is a joke! It should be $199 like they had during promotions. But apparently they're having trouble making those too so dropping the price would cause shortages with that system too.
Get one used, if you want one cheap though. -

I've debated on picking up a cheaper PS4 when all the hype dust settles and PS5 is in full steam. But with these various production lulls, who is to say if ever that day will actually arrive? I hope soon, I want to get my hands in the game before they shut down the virtual store for that console as they inevitably do as new generations take footing. I wonder if the continued supply shortage is in relation to Covid or just an odd market strategy or rough planning on their parts. I'd bet Covid primarily, but hard to say without research! -

Well they cite covid and the fact that the whole industry has a shortage of chips. Lots of companies are competing for silicon.
If you want one for cheap, I'd just go used. They are pretty cheap on Craigslist and will inevitably only get cheaper once more people get their hands on PS5s. -

Perhaps, but as much as I've relied on used in the past, this day and age it can be more of a gamble. With consoles of old, to test if a used item was working was often as simple as quickly plugging it in, powering it on with a game inside it, and if it booted up with the game, it was good. These days, it requires making sure the games boot, the memory can save things, no operation is corrupted, it can give clear picture, it can detected the wireless controllers, I could go on and on. It's just more of a gamble, so I'm often leery of used unless I go to a tested and trusted game shop, but often they make you pay for the extra insurance of knowing it works. I'm just going to wait it out a bit longer before I rush at it, but I hope the used prices in game shops drops or the overall PS4 price drops soon enough. -

That's for sure, you do have to do a thorough inspection on systems these days. You don't want a use console that was not taken care of. Ya, there's no rush. They will be in production for several more years. -

Yeah, I'm sure the right time will arrive soon enough! I never did jump on the PS3 bandwagon though, but in the era of PS3/XBox 360, it honestly felt like where ever you landed just worked fine. I had a used 360, so 95% of the games I wanted to play were accessible. Not a ton of console exclusives peak me these days, since they started branching out things like Resident Evil to cross platform years ago! But, PS4 definitely reignited the fire of desire for some of their console exclusives in the last five years, one of which oddly enough was the MediEvil remake. The original was just fun, and I would love to someday pay that remake!
