Very good graphics, looks nice but I can't wait to see gameplay.

Also, According to GameInformer, Ian Flynn, who is known for the later, post-reboot run of the Archie comics, and is currently writting the IDW comics run is going to do the story. which is also great.

It certainly looks promising, and I'm definitely excited about it!
I am curious about the game mechanics, story and characters. The graphics look really sweet though and I'm intrigued by how mysterious it's being presented. It has some mystical vibes, along with some old school Sonic Adventure feelings. We shall see.
It will also be interesting to see how Ian Flynn spins a story in the Sonic games. I did like his work in IDW.

Yeah I'm really excited to see gameplay. There are some fangames that have an open world style gameplay and are pretty fun but the problem with the fangames is they are usually just one or two levels and not a complete game. It takes more than just one or two good levels to be a good game.

Yes this is true. Some of the fangames I don't even know what I'm doing or where to go to be honest. Though fan games have proven that Sonic can work in a full 3D environment. The one thing I will say is that a lot of fan games have a good amount of character variety. It would be nice to bring a couple other characters into the fold to be playable in Frontiers than Sonic, even if say you start out as Sonic and unlock other characters along the way. That would also bring back some Adventure vibes as well.

I also wonder if they're going to bring the chao garden back? I could have sworn I read somewhere they were...but I can't remember where I read it.

All we can do is speculate at this point.

But I think even if it's just Sonic that's playable, it looks promising all the same. I just hope it's playable. Considering how much work has gone into this by the looks of things though, I would think so.

    I do hope Blaze makes an appearance at least, that was one thing I really missed about Forces. Ever since she debuted in Rush I've been a huge fan of the purple fire cat princess. ^^;

I personally hope for characters like Adventure just refined and modern. Tails racing an enemy in his stages that are custom made for his flight would be cool. Not sure about Knuckles. Maybe stages like Sonic but changed so it requires breaking barriers and climbing.

I think an open-world game is more built for characters like Sonic who can speed around a vast open area. With characters like Knuckles and Tails, their abilities, while useful for exploration in a game like that, would probably slow down the gameplay as well since they don't glide or fly as fast as Sonic (or at least in the games).

Well maybe Sonic could be open world and Knuckles could be semi open world treasure hunting? Tails could be puzzle based but levels that utilize his ability to swim and fly.

I'm not sure they'll add more playable characters aside from Sonic.
Hope I'm wrong -a Sonic open world game with several different playstyles sounds like a dream came true to me- but the guys and gals from Sonic Team probably will want to perfect Sonic's gameplay before adding other, potentially more complex mechanics.

One thing is for sure: Frontiers feels like something completely new. Sonic Team is trying something different this time, and I hope they nail it.

Maybe other playable characters could be unlocked later or added as DLC? That would be something at least.
I'd pay the extra money just to get more characters...that's how bad I want to play other characters. Eggman
I enjoy the modern games believe it or not. But one charming thing I miss from the classics is the ability to explore levels with other characters and add to the story. I liked how you could explore different parts of the level with other characters. Sonic was still the main story though as he should be, but getting to explore other aspects of the levels and find cool power ups in hidden places with mechanics like Knuckles or Tails gives the game a lot of replay value for me.
And I totally want to see Blaze get more attention. But you know.

I agree it would be a dream come true. I really hope Sonic isn't the only playable character, but it's not like I'll be so disappointed that I won't buy, play and enjoy the game. I'll just see it as a missed opportunity. The levels are beautiful enough that I'm already intrigued by the fantastical mysterious world that Sonic will be taken to. It has Adventure vibes with amazing graphics that could rival Breath of the Wild and perhaps even The Elder Scrolls. The story is going to be what makes or breaks it for me, I'm excited to find out how this world captures the spirit of Sonic's world and adds to the lore.
