Not me nearly jumping out of my seat.

Looks like Surge and Kit are dragging in some poor koala schmuck to complete their team instead of Duo. it seems? Dunno what their deal is but if what I assume is the case, I'm down for that.

Definitely excited for it. We have new Rider designs, the Babylon Rogues making a big appearance again, and you bet the art is gonna rule!

I asked too why Duo isn't with Surge and Kit, but then again Duo is considered a member of the New Diamond Cutters at the moment and I'm assuming it would be suspicious for Duo to be so easy to team up w/ the two since they just joined the resistance, even though "Duo" doesn't know what's going on w/ them in story technically /shrugs I'm sure there'll be an explanation in story anyways

ppl are also really excited seeing the koala character bcuz it "counts" as a Sonic Rush reference and I never realized at first, I genuinely thought it was just some random koala but, that's where there were koala characters the most! it's also always cool seeing different species as characters in universe so I love it; I've been totally ready for this arc since the beginning of the year, but w/ how excited everyone is for a Sonic Riders arc I can totally understand them postponing this for a mini-series, I would be all over the place if both the Fang mini series and the Riders story arc were coming out at the same time!

@ I went back and realized someone previously asked abt a Koala character in the Winter Jam story to Min Ho Kim, who is currently working on art for Issue 69 and his Sonic sona is a koala! although this isn't 100% the answer for the koala character since the story isn't out yet we can't say for sure, but I think it's a really cute detail to continue for stories he's done the art for to include a koala in the "free space" Smile

the previews of idw #69 look super fun, but man, i am way behind on idw right now. i initially read up through the metal virus arc & enjoyed it a lot, but then i switched over to the archie comics, and now i want to finish out archie before i continue with idw. i know a lot of former archie staff ended up working on idw, so i think it'd be fun to see just how the style transitioned over between late archie and early idw.

I RETURN IN GLORIOUS FASHION AND BOY AM I LATE!!!

It being the start of the arc, and also me not wanting to spoil anything, I unfortunately can't say too much about #69. More so that I missed reading a fresh new story. It sets up a lot and I'm DYING to see where it all leads.

I do have one talking point though. And I don't consider it much of a spoiler since, if you've been around the blue bird app anywhere near this issue's release, you'd see tons of posts about Surge having her quills down for one of the scenes and how well she rocks that look.

And yeah, you rock, girl! My friends who are only mildly into Sonic went crazy for downquills Surge. One of them even said she somehow managed to be even more punk metal.

But Surge having her quills down is interesting to me, not only because she just looks good like that, but also because it breaks her design model in only a minor way.

As some of us already know, SEGA's a bit stingy with having the game characters wear unique outfits in the comics, or "breaking their design model". Which makes sense, the model is also brand recognition after all, so it's rare to see characters wearing different outfits. Dream on if you wanna see just a slight design change like say, Blaze letting her fur down.

The comic-exclusive characters don't have to abide so strictly to their design models, so something like the Diamond Cutters getting Riders designs, or Lanolin going from background character to protagonist and changing her look with that doesn't rely on as much approval as the game cast.

Which goes back to downquills Surge. Since outfits changes are possible, a simple hairstyle change is very much a-okay without needing the overlooking of contractors.

That is all to say that the comic characters don't have as strict model rules as the game cast, which I find pretty cool that it finally payed off in having Surge let those spiky quills down for once instead of making us question why she sleeps with her ponytail done.

Which, actually, confirms her hair band... thingy is not imbued in her and can be taken off, which is neat to know. It's a bit of a headcanon around some parts that components in Surge's attire are actually just part of her and can't be taken off, like her rings and cuffs. So good to get a bit of an answer for that question.

it was nice to see costume changes for the comic characters! like you mentioned, we haven't really seen any other character have their fur/quills down or even any type of wardrobe change since this issue, so seeing Surge with her quills down and everyone getting their own Riders outfits was great, even a special someone at the end of the issue had a unique outfit on for the occasion which was a treat! fashion in Sonic is smth I wish was played around with more, even if it wasn't anything major I liked seeing all the characters in different outfits, whether holiday related, or even just as smth they would wear (like "Sonic's favourite outfit" in the OVA, haha)

I guess I never really thought abt rings and cuffs being able to be taken off or not though Hmmm I just assumed that since Shadow can take off his inhibitor rings, other characters could also take off their gloves and other accessories... but I don't blame SEGA and Sonic Team for wanting to stray away from the idea of characters removing gloves and shoes... oops! that was a very common gag in the 90s comics and cartoons unfortunately. I guess for Surge though it would make sense for her to have cuffs that couldn't be taken off, but it would almost be too cruel in a way too...
