So about a few days ago, a treatment for a Sonic movie was uploaded to the internet and discussed by folks on the Sega Retro Forums. It would have been produced by Trilogy Entertainment in 1994. This treatment would predate the Wonders of the World movie treatment by a whole year.

It's most certainly... something. Sonic himself being more of a super hero-like mutation rather than being a simple blue hedgehog is a choice. The story beats aaaalmost give off this Kamen Rider/Guyver feel to them. I could see this being reworked into a different film entirely maybe!

Glad it never made the light of day to be honest. I don't know why Hollywood was so terrible with game adaptations back the. The Mario movie was horrible.

I don't think it would have worked out. Sonic being a mutant sounds abysmal and out of place for the franchise. It reminds me of Michael Bay's dumb idea to originally make the Turtles aliens.

When reading it, I definitely had the vibe that this would've been a fascinating sci-fi action movie and "in era" for the time period it was written in, though I'm sure it wouldn't have come out until the late 90s if they did anything more.

If we did see this adapted fully back then, I'm so sure it'd be one of those movies that did okay, or was a flop but became a classic either way for how silly it is. Much like Michael Keaton's Jack Frost or Little Nicky (movies I enjoyed as a kid when I'd seen them on tv btw, I know I would enjoy this fun little pile of hot garbage (lovingly) as well).

I'm always so fascinated by cancelled sonic media, especially when it comes to movies

like @ said this definitely is "of era" and I think this would've been another cool addition to all the other iterations of sonic canon that existed during the 90s
