He has never played sonic and knows basically nothing about sonic even outside the games. If you met someone who has no knowledge of sonic games what two games would you recommend to start them out with? -

Just do not recommend Sonic Blast!

I'd say start with Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K. -

For 2D titles, I'd probably recommend Sonic Mania with either Sonic 2 or Sonic 3&K as the other game. Mania feels pretty content packed, especially with the Mania Plus DLC. Sonic 2 and 3&K are classics that still hold up very well.
If they were looking into specifically 3D titles, I'd say Generations and maybe Sonic Adventure 2. The former is an easy game to pick up and play with good gameplay, while the latter has quite a bit of replay value due to the addictive Chao Garden mode as well as the different missions available. -

I think all of the recommendationsso far are spot on although I'dad in Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Rush for 2D and for 3D Generations and Adventure 2. So my 3D picks are the same but can't go wrong with the classics either. -

I took your advice for Sonic 3&k. He liked it but was a bit Luke warm. Then we tried Mania and same. Then for 3D we tried adventure 2 and he was hooked on it except for the mech stages. He liked the sonic and shadow levels and knuckles and rouge. Didn't have time for other games yet but he's looking forward to more. Once he's done with adventure 2 I might have him try the first adventure. -

I'm really glad to hear your friend is enjoying Sonic Adventure 2 overall. The first Sonic Adventure is pretty similar, so he may like that one as well. -

I would recommend Sonic Generations. Easy to get into.
