I just created a fully installed version of Mint on a USB flash drive so I could boot Linux on USB and Windows on HDD. Mint is one of the more user friendly versions but I have to say it's pretty awesome and way snappier than Windows 10.
Anyone else have experience with Linux? -

Yeah, running a dual-boot Win 10/Ubuntu system here.
Really liking the customization and such of the penguin side. That and the community support seems to be way better than Windows', at least in my experience. But then again, I haven't had that many issues. Mostly just with audio messing up every now and then.
There's been times I've been thinking of switching distributions at some point (feeling like I could move onto something more "advanced") but I haven't really got around to researching the differences and at the moment I'm fine with what I have. That and I don't really have the free time for that because of life stuff.
And, if I'm being entirely honest? I would ditch the former if there weren't some programs/games keeping me stuck with it that don't run on Linux natively/under Wine. Perhaps one day...

Dualbooting is a great option. Unfortunately I couldn't make that work on my laptop, at least with my limited knowledge. I researched how to do it, but I just couldn't partition it and I didn't want to accidentally erase files/Windows. So I made an encrypted bootable version on my USB and now I can take my OS and files everywhere.
I really like linux and I honestly never need to use Windows again because the only program I use that is Windows only(photoshop) works fine on wine.

I've experimented with Linux once or twice; and yes, it's been nicer than Windows and so forth. Ended up eliminating my dual-boot partition because requirements for my classes made it impractical, and now I want to reinstall it but wasn't able to. So once term's over, probably going to reformat and try to set it up again. -

I can't say I've ever so much as used Linux in my life, but I'm familiar with it's existence. It sounds as though I'm missing out. Everyone seems pretty happy with it. Would it be something I should look into gaining access to as an operating system at some point down the road? I am due for some computer upgrads in the coming year! -

Well it is a learning curve of all you've experienced is Windows or even MacOS. Although there are some that make windows users feel at home such as Mint.
It's great to bring new life into old computers no longer supported by Microsoft though. So if you have an old computer laying around that you don't use, it couldn't hurt to try it out. -

Perhaps if I replace my current one, I can keep it around to experiment with and add Linux at some stage. I can't say I'm the most programming savvy when it comes to those matters but I am not bad at following tutorials online so I'm sure I could find one that would help me give it a go and familiarize myself finally with Linux! -

Well I have long since completely ditched dualbooting and went full Linux! Bought a made-for-linux laptop that even has open source bios.
Dualbooting is still a great option for those who need Windows or Mac for school and such. Anyone try out different distros? -

...Still dual-booting with Win 10 here, though I've switched distros some months after my last post - from Ubuntu to Arch. (broke my bootloader on Ubuntu, didn't know how to fix it, ended up trying to install Arch on bare metal for the first time just to see if I could do it + it was what all the cool kids used. Somehow I managed.)
Haven't really had the desire to distrohop or anything after that.
