Video games at their core are supposed to be fun. However, first impressions are very important. The opening of a game can establish the tone for the rest of the game and get the player ready for the adventure that awaits them. That all being said, here are some of my favorite openings.
Doom Eternal: This opening perfectly sums up the threats that you will face throughout the game and seeing Doom Guy grab his ammo and preparing his gun for the terror that awaits him....or rather the terror that awaits the demons brings shivers down my spine...Rip and Tear...until it is done.

NiGHTS Journey of Dreams: This is just a beautiful opening for a game for the Wii. I had low standards coming into the game because I heard it had a bit of a bad reputation. While the in-game cutscenes are quite mediocre, they NAILED this opening.

Banjo-Kazooie: This opening sets the tone for the rest of the game as a fun cartoony adventure. But what makes me love this opening is the music that the characters of the game are making which making the opening iconic and fun.

Persona 5: With a gorgeous art-style and a great song that perfectly summarizes what the Phantom Thieves are and do, this opening remains one of my favorite openings of all time. It also beautifully introduces the cast of characters you will meet.

Sonic Unleashed: This intro....this intro was amazing. It demonstrated Sonic's speed like no other and it NAILED Eggman's character as a deceptive mastermind (wish I can say the same for the rest of the game. That's probably why I appreciate this cutscene even more). Not to mention this was probably the closest we ever get to see Sonic suffering excruciating pain by the hands of Eggman. I would also like to note that in the beta version of the cutscene, it would show Sonic's skeleton when he was being electrocuted. I thought that was quite neat.
