  It got a lot of hate when they showed it off but I like the more realistic, menacing depiction. What do you think of it?

  I'm all for a more menacing looking Eggman. While I do believe the Modern Eggman design we have today can still be frightening (look to the IDW comics), the character of Robotnik has the potential to be all menace, no goof. However, I feel like they dropped the ball with '06 Eggman.
  
  I certainly don't hate it, no. But what they tried to do here is indeed make Eggman more menacing and realistic but also insisting to have a bit of comic relief to him, and I feel they went too hard on... highlighting his features and it just made for a design that you can't take seriously, pair that with the funny-looking mocap and it's a shame we never did get that "all business, no funny stuff" Robotnik like back in the Western days of Sonic media.

  there are elements I like abt his '06 design, in the opening cutscene for '06 I think he looks fine, he genuinely looks like an interpretation of eggman compared to smth like milton knight's robotnik design which is an entirely different character (which, there is nothing wrong with the robotnik design, but I cannot look at the robotnik design and say "that's eggman" y'know?)
  
  I think a lot of the issues with the design come from the in-game cutscenes than anything, I think it's a combination of the texture work for his skin being oddly flat with not even some blush on his nose and getting to see behind his glasses with those.... dead pale eyes... it creates this uncanny valley for the design overall
  
  
  
  
  
  there are elements of base eggman that I think they neglected when translating this design to realistic human proportions, he's still "egg shaped" or rather pear shaped in his body size, but I think his head shape should've been rounded out just a bit more rather than give him this squashed head. eggman's original design was already based off of a real human, which was theodore roosevelt! and I think they should've looked back on that when making '06 eggman's design
  
  whenever eggman smiles in '06 though he does seem a little more... eggman-ish actually though! (he's always so...  toothy )
  
  
  
  when I played '06 on release I sort of just accepted the design with no real problems to it bcuz at the time I just went "well, that's just what eggman looks like for this game" but I think having different iterations of eggman/robotnik while growing up helped with this line of thinking, 15~ ish yrs later I can see the flaws in the design and accept it as it is, but at least his moustache is nicer compared to whatever was going on in shadow the hedgehog's pre-rendered cutscenes

  Oh yeah, his portrayal is just so much more vibrant, especially in the way he speaks. Robotnik really gives off that classic villain vibe, doesn't anyone think?

  Yes, his mannerisms is another great aspect to that version of his character.

  Hmmm I can see that but I always thought he looked more serious here. Then again I never played all the way through it so I just have the first few cuts scenes to go by. Maybe my opinion would change seeing all of his different angles.

  It was alright but I prefer his adventure designs and his depiction in the newer games.

  I agree. Not bad but not memorable. I can see why that design wasn't continued.
