Well I just joined CBS all access's free just to watch the Console Wars documentary. It's a really great documentary about Sega tackling Nintendo in America during its dominance in the 80s and early 90s. It does a great job of showing how they took them on and even surpassed them for a time. It later also goes on and touches on how without Nintendo there probably wouldn't be a video game market in America without them and then the mistakes they made after Genesis with Saturn that led to Sony dominating the industry. I'd highly recommend it!

I've never watched the Console Wars but it sounds like the type of thing I would enjoy. I fully agree with how videogames wouldn't be huge without Nintendo. After the infamous video game crash of 1983, people lost confidence in videogames. In fact, that's why Nintendo created R.O.B. which was basically a trojan horse to make the NES look like a toy rather than a videogame console. I might've misread what you said but Sega's mistake with the Saturn wasn't the cause of the rise of the PlayStation. Sony once partnered with Nintendo to make a disc accessory for the SNES if I recall correctly. Nintendo eventually backed off the deal without telling Sony and teamed up with Philips creating the CD-I. This obviously angered Sony and so they joined the console wars as Nintendo's competitor.

Well they also had a chance to partner with Sony and Sega management declined. This was before their partnership with Nintendo, which is what I was getting at. It started the whole thing into motion.

Yeah it's lesser known than Nintendo. It's pretty sad, Japanese management went against management in the west despite their success due to jealousy.
