ShTH for ps2/gamecube had a lot of improvements over the previous game (heroes) that a lot of ppl don't give it credit for also! Thumbs Up

speaking as someone who just recently did a full playthrough (gamecube vers.) shadow's momentum has been tightened in this game and it feels much better to control him at higher speeds, he turns much wider bcuz of this and it doesn't feel as "slippery" as heroes did, but bcuz his top speed is still very high it makes going through levels w/ normal missions or just back tracking easier in my opinion

the gun play is also not as egregious as ppl think, there's no need to aim any of the automatic guns (only the rocket and missle launchers have reticles) as long as you're close enough to an enemy, there is some awkward enemy placement in the game, but I also find the ring system forgiving enough that it doesn't ruin the experience entirely. (you only lose 10 rings at a time, regardless of your total amount.)

I'll agree w/ ppl who dislike having to achieve the 10 unique endings in order to see the canon last story, but they also don't understand that the unique endings are actually to showcase the kind of character shadow could be, they're all meant to explore his character... unfortunately bcuz of how vague some of the cutscenes have to be in order for your choices to make sense (for example, you could do a few dark missions and then suddenly a hero/neutral one, the following cutscene needs to accommodate for that) ppl just assume every cutscene in ShTH is "one (in)coherent story" which isn't true

tldr; I feel like this game wasn't seen as "an exploration of shadow the hedgehog's character" by a lot of fans and it was really unfortunate that bcuz of that
sorry for such a long reply this game is just very fresh in my mind and I've come to really enjoy it as of recent  Hmmm

While I think Heroes was good, I agree. Shadow is much better despite gettingdumped on by reviews.

shadow is such a mess of a game, and i personally have a lot of conflicting feelings about it, but i definitely think it's a lot better than people give it credit for. it baffles me how people will just write it off as the edgy sonic game when it's so much more interesting than that, jank and all.

i had some incredibly frustrating experiences playing through it myself (particularly with central city and both of the ark stages. i spent over an hour on the infamous lost impact hero mission on my very first playthrough...) but other than that i really enjoyed it. i didn't even mind replaying it ten times, i had a lot of fun picking which levels i wanted to do to get the different endings.

i do wish the different endings were a bit more satisfying, though. the hero and neutral-hero path endings were the only ones that did anything for me. the dark-aligned path endings felt sort of interchangeable, and while i do like the idea of the neutral endings on paper, i wasn't a big fan of the way they ended up being portrayed in-game. though with the way the game's story was presented, i'm not sure how much they could have improved that anyways.

I played the GameCube version of Shadow The Hedgehog on my Nintendo Wii, all I can say is (and this might be a hot take) that game feels a lot better than Sonic Heroes to me, Shadow isn't slippery, though turning is heavy and the airdrag is very strong but I'll take that before swerving all over the place, or going at the speed of molasses (Power mode is fine but they won't let me use it for the entire game)... Also, Expert Mode is pretty awesome and people who dislike the missions should AT LEAST try checking out that mode...
