Blaze was introduced in Sonic Rush back in 2005 as a princess from another dimension, who's purpose was to safeguard the Sol Emeralds. As her name implies, her powers and abilities involve pyrokinetics or fire manipulation. She shares a lot of parallels with other characters, being the "Sol" guardian of the Sol Emeralds (see what I did there?) she does share a sense of duty with everyone's favorite red echidna.
Her sense of duty has often left her aloof and has found herself hesitant to ask for help from anyone. Her demeanor is very proper, as befitting a princess or anyone of royalty. But don't let that fool you, she can seriously kick some butt when she needs to.
At the end of Rush she did become friends with Sonic and the gang, and realize there's value in friendship. It's a cute sentiment, but I think she still struggles with social anxiety, something I can relate to.
Blaze has become a personal favorite of mine, a tough female character and the very first female to ever have a "super" form or something close to it. With the Sol Emeralds, she can transform into Burning Blaze and turns pink with flames all around her. (And she's a kitty! Win win. ^^)
In Sonic '06 she takes on a completely different role as Silver's companion, but I haven't played much of '06 to really gauge her character in the game. Can't say I was impressed with her being downgraded to Silver's sidekick rather than an equal companion and counterpart to Sonic.
She returns again in Rush Adventure with her previous role, which I consider a proper continuation of her character.
The Rush version of Blaze is what I've considered canon, though there's much debate about what is considered canon for the firecat.
What do you think? What is Blaze's canon story? Does the '06 story make things confusing? Do you consider that an AU? Did you like her better in the Rush series or in '06?
Should Blaze make more appearances in Sonic games, preferably as a playable character?
Do you like Blaze?
What are your thoughts on the fire cat princess?
Also I would add pictures but I found I have some trouble in that department. ^^;
