I wouldn't consider it much a problem. At the surface Mario Kart and the Sonic Racing series are both mascot racing games, sure, but they still have their own appeal in terms of gameplay. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed doesn't give me the same fill as Mario Kart: Double Dash and vice-versa. It's of course dependent on how CrossWorlds treats the Sonic Racing formula, but I do think they can co-exist. -

No of course they can co-exist and they'll carve their own niche. But I do think there's a lot of people who'd have maybe picked CrossWorlds up just to give it a try that maybe won't now because of MK World. More casual fans of mascot racers in general. -

That is... actually a pretty good point and unfortunately true.
Though honestly, not to be pessimistic, but when hasn't Sonic been outshone since like, end of early 2000's, give or take? It doesn't have to make a boom. If the game can do good on the formula then it's fine by me.
... But a boom would be nice. There is the concern about the game being well made but low on sales, thus discouraging more of the same kind or even- if the Great Gaia below allows. some greater risks with the franchise as a whole.
That feels like putting too much importance on a racing spin-off, but who the heck knows! This one does well and Mr. Sonic Team gets the confidence to finally make that modern Tails-centric game he so deserves. -

Yeah it is true that Sonic hasn't been quite competing with Mario for a while now. He's the alternative kid to Mario's popular jock.
Do we have a final list of characters for this game? I'd love a deep cut like Heavy and Bomb lol -

I'm really crossing my fingers that this game will be good. I'm a huge fan of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (man, those titles are mouthfuls). Team Sonic Racing was good but felt like a step back from the previous two. I also wasn't a fan of the team mechanic. I don't know about you, but when I play racing games, I want to race against other players, not race with them. -

I was thinking while playing Mania that having the Hard Boiled Heavies would actually be a really cool character slot. I think Mania has been quite largely ignored since it released which is a real shame as I still think it’s one of the best entries in the franchise. Have the Hard Boiled Heavies appeared in anything since Mania Plus?? -

the Sonic the Hedgehog account posted some footage today of Jet riding through White Cave from Sonic Riders

I haven't really said anything abt the game when it announced bcuz I've just been busy doing other things, but I absolutely love that Jet is riding his extreme gear and not being forced into a car, and we're getting a great amount of characters like Sage, so I'm staying positive. I know we're getting Mario Kart World and a new Kirby Air Ride but I'm sure there'll be lots of ppl getting at least 2 if not all 3 games, depending on the price. Plus with CrossWorlds being on other consoles aside from just the Switch there'll be a wider audience for the game. -

So does the Extreme Gear play differently to the cars and bikes? Shame if they're just a reskin but I feel like that looks pretty different?

personally, I wouldn't call them a simple reskin since the size of the vehicles and the extreme gear are different, and I don't think we've seen whether or not the extreme gear have transformations like the vehicles do. We can see that the vehicles can transform (via large green rings) to off road, flying, and water variants during races, where as nothing like that has been shown for extreme gear like that
the extreme gear will probably still have a way to fly and ofc stay above water for courses but maybe it's a more compact format of vehicle, or the only difference is tighter handling... who knows! but both types can still perform flips and tricks on races which... I forgot how kinda funny it is to see the car do a full flip over itself
