The Resident Evil Series
Zamau > 09-14-2018, 11:31 AM
One of my favourite gaming franchise's, with many great games and a remake of Resident Evil 2 what will be released soon. So far my favourite game of the series is the first Resident Evil Remake, but the original is still pretty good. The series didn't seem to do to well once Resident Evil 5 and 6 were released, but I thought RE5 was okay. The classic style of Resident Evil seemed to had ended with Resident Evil Code Veronica X, a good but underrated game in the franchise. Resident Evil 4 is what changed series into a more action based franchise, but there was still some survival horror, and it was a great game. Although the survival horror returned with Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, and it was in first person view. It was different, but it was still awesome.
What does anyone else think of the series? -

When I was a kid I loved it! I got the first one shortly after the second came out and me and my cousins would play zombies outside like we were in Resident Evil. lol I got 3 on the Dreamcast and Code Veronica X on the PS2. Veronica X is probably my favorite of the classic games. After that I became more of a fan of Silent Hill but that series never recovered after 3. RE4 remains one of my top PS2 games alongside God of War. It was so great back in the day. RE5 tried to copy it but lost all the magic that made 4 great.
I like the direction they took with 7 and hope 8 stays first person mainly because it supports VR and it's SOOOOOOO good in VR. Like I thought there weren't any games that could scare me anymore and admittedly RE7 probably wouldn't if I were playing it on a TV but when it feels like you are there and you turn and someone's right there waiting to attack you!! It's the first time I legitimately jumped in a game and wasn't even on the couch anymore. -

RE7 is great it seemed like it was designed with VR in mind, but I haven't got a headset yet, so for the moment I have to play it on the TV. I bet it will be a different kind of game in VR, and I hope I do get a headset soon. I like that lot of classic things returned to the series, like item boxes and the inventory, as was as the music sounding like it did in the classic games. I haven't played any of the DLC's yet. I'm looking forward to the remake of RE2, although I think the original RE2 is still good. After the remake, I won't mind if the new games stay as first person view and VR. -

You know, being a PS guy, you'd think I'd have a play around with this series, but I never have! It's either because I've never owned a single game in the series (4 looked right up my alley, to be honest, but I never got round to playing it), or because I'm a major lightweight when it comes to survival horror. The closest I've ever come to getting into the genre myself was watching the first episodes of some SH1 Let's Plays on Youtube. In terms of movies, the only horror movie I've watched (if it even counts) was Get Out, which I saw in the cinema in Bristol with my sister last April. Gotta say, although the film irked me, there was something about the thrill of it all which left me with a want for more. I reckon I'll dip my foot in with the first RE game. 2 and 7 seem a little extreme for me
EDIT: From what I've heard, if I were to play the original, I should stay away from the Director's Cut, if only for that hilarious basement music. Those in the know, am I correct on that front? -

I have the director cut on my PS3 from the PlayStation Store, and the basement music is the same as the original. The strange basement music is in the duel shock version of the directors cut, I think that's what the US PlayStation Store got. -

I wish all the classic Resident Evil games the UK PlayStation Store got, were the US versions because they would be 60hz. The original RE2 and RE3 on the UK PlayStation Store are the US versions so they will run faster because they're 60hz, but RE Directors Cut is the UK version, so it runs slower at 50hz. But anyway they are still great games.
Since Resident Evil 2 is getting a remake. I wonder if the third game will get a remake too, since it takes place before and after RE2. -

You can make a US account and buy games from the US store. I made a UK account to buy classics. I bought Driver and Sonic Heroes on that account as they aren’t available on the US store. Sonic Heroes has a 60hz option too which is great.
I have RE1 and 3 from the PS store though. They were great to play on the Vita because the small screen minimized the imperfections of the old graphics and they looked pretty darn good! RE3 was best on the Dreamcast though because the VMU displayed your health so there was no need to pause it to see if you needed to heal if you were still okay. -

If you have already got the classic RE games on the PS3, do you have to buy them again on the Vita or do you just download them? -

So I had a little tinker around with RE1, and I have to say it was pretty freaking fun! I loved how on edge the game made me feel, turning off the music in completely empty rooms to make me feel constantly unsafe, forcing me to carefully ration my ammo and healing items, and I also loved the openended-ness of the mansion. Note to self, though: Next time, bring a pen and paper to write stuff down! I can't remember where some rooms are
