Geez, how did I forget about
these models?
Took me long enough as well
Now, this goes on the realms of spin-off, but the Sonic Boom models!
I've sung Boom's praises despise it's initial backlash countless times and I don't think I've ever mentioned the character designs in general, which I believe to be great.
Sonic has always had a problem when being modeled in 3D to be kind of finnicky to pose and overall look good due to his stylized nature and inherently 2D design. And a problem Boom addresses by having taller models with slimmer limbs, and without those awkward Mickey Mouse hands that make animating Sonic a nightmare. And BOY are they expressive, they're some of the most emotive we've seen Sonic characters being in that era.
And in terms of visuals, I find the cast to be designed pretty well around their voice cast. Overall the extra cosmetics (or in Knuckles' case, the extra muscle) also help to get an idea of each character's roles. And it's hard for me to explain, but I like Boom as a proper "Westernization" of the Sonic look, as it historically always had a tinge of Japanese influence to it.
Said it before, I'll say it again. Big shame Sonic Boom doesn't get to run alongside mainline Sonic as it's Western cousin like the movies do now. And I honestly just wish these designs would get some more love in general, they're pretty fun!
