Hey, yes I did start Sonic Advance (GBA), but because I'm currently playing a Pokémon game (GBA) for my YouTube project I'm focusing more on that to be honest.
My project is Pokémon focused, but I have been thinking about adding additional content and I will start with Sonic for that for sure.
It is currently an on-develop project, so might be sharing more info later ! -

Pokemon is my second gaming franchise, second to Sonic actually. Whenever you do get the chance to play the Sonic Advance trilogy, you're going to love them! Are you playing Emerald by chance? It's my favorite Pokemon title! I love Generation 3. Also welcome to Sonic Blast, it's one of my favorite Sonic forums.

I just got Sonic Lost World installed in a Wii U, seems funny enough, so I will play it slow.

Not Emerald at the moment, I'm playing Orange Islands (GBA) on macOS. I personally love Gen 2, but Gen 3 would be my second favourite one, since Emerald was actually the first Pokémon game I ever bought at the time it was still on sale regularly.

A lot of people do not like Lost World but I am one who did like it. It has flaws but I like the Ratchet styled gameplay. The whole level is like the moons on Ratchet and Clank 2. -

It sure is confusing at first because it doesn't explain the controllers, but the Ratchet style reminds me a lot of Mario Galaxy, and although I never finished that game, I really like its style. -

Might sound a little mean, but in my opinion, the Advance Games can be a mixed bag, I don't believe they represent the best of the franchise... (Unless you mean sprites because they're the best of the best of the best, as you can probably tell).
That being said, they're not bad games either, the music is great even though the GBA could be called infamous for its weak sounding tunes, the only reason why the Advance Games aren't at the top of my list, is because they need a bit of patience when learning the level layouts. If you want the truest 2D Sonic experience that everybody seems to talk about when referring to 2D Sonic, I could recommend you to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It's a personal favorite of mines thanks to "Sonic Mega Collection Plus"...
If you're into 3D for exploration and such, I think Sonic Frontiers is very nice when it comes to open-ended gameplay... though the story can be a little hard to grasp sometimes...
Sonic Adventure 1, AKA my favorite game, can be a great starting point to since it's not too difficult and gives you quite a few styles to experience (READ BIG'S TUTORIAL)
Sonic Adventure 2 may not give you the same freedom and choices, but it's probably better if you want challenging tight action over movement freedom, so it's worth looking into.
And if you want 2D and 3D in the same game, or simply don't care about the division, any of the "Boost-Era" games should fill that gap, each has its own bit of spice that might cater to your taste. Whatever you choose, remember having fun comes first! -

I currently started playing Sonic Generations on PS3, it is quite fantastic considering its age. The mix of 2D and 3D gameplay makes it unique to play, in my opinion.
But you are correct, the GBA or pixel era games have this uniqueness that goes beyond the comparison of 2D vs 3D.
I often times lend my consoles to friends, so I jump from game to game without completing any on a single run. I will take into consideration the ones you mention !
