Now, I don't wanna start spewing wishful thinking just yet, there's a possibility they just mean like Maria and Gerald or something.

But DAMMIT, I wanna eat my own words about Amy not being a possibility in this movie.

YEA!!!

The real question is, which are they going to add, Rouge or Amy?

I can't see them adding both, really. If they did, they'd have six (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, Amy) fully CGI characters to animate in live-action style, and it'd definitely cause problems for the budget. And at that point, they'd probably just switch over to making fully CGI films.

I heard a rumor that due to the actors strike they had to film actors afterwards and possibly had to reduce the amount of footage that had live actors. It is possible they add two additional characters because of that.
