Thoughts on Sonic Prime?
BurningBlaze > 02-18-2023, 09:15 AM
So what are the forum's thoughts on Sonic Prime? I know it's been out for a while now, but I haven't gotten around to watching it. Is it any good? -

My thoughts on the series so far are somewhat mixed. Without making too large of a comment, I feel like the dimensional concept is very hit or miss. I like the New Yoke dimension a lot, because it reminds me of SatAM, and is by far the most fleshed-out out of all the dimensions in the show. The others don't really interest me, though. The pirate dimension specifically felt generic to me, like they slapped stock pirate assets on Sonic models and called it a day.
There's also Sonic's character. The show handles some aspects of it really well, but I feel like it makes him overall stupider and more annoying for the sake of having him undergo character progression. Which wouldn't be a problem if this was its own canon. But Prime's producer has been very adamant that the show is indeed canon to the games, so it just felt weird to me seeing Sonic act like that, especially given this show is coming off the heels of Sonic Frontiers.
But again, the things the show handles well, it handles very well. I'd say that regardless of my criticisms of it, the show's worth a try. -

That's a pretty good take @ . I liked the pirate one better than the jungle one but overall I didn't dislike any of them, I did find New Yolk to be the best one of them as well though.
I'm very interested in where they take it, after that last episode. I'm still finding it enjoyable, but the season didn't do enough imo. It needed more episodes. -

I'm not sure if you know about this, but the reason the season feel so short is that it's actually only one-third of a season.

It's a bit complicated to explain, but the short answer is that Netflix split Sonic Prime's actual first season (24 episodes) into three "seasons" of 8 episodes so that they could avoid paying the animators certain benefits that come with working on long seasons.
I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but recently Netflix did this to another of their video game adaptions, "The Cuphead Show". They ordered 48 episodes at once, and then released half of them initially as the "first season", and kept the other half for later release as the "second season". -

I've enjoyed what I've seen so far! I do like Sonic in a cyberpunky aesthetic, and these alternate versions of everyone. This Tails especially I think shows another level of depth. Can't wait for more! -

Anyone know when more episodes will be released? -

While I don't know for sure, I'd assume the next batch of 8 episodes (there are three batches in total, one of which we've already got) is coming soon, given one of the show's animators recently announced that all the animation for the show's 24 episodes has been completed. -

Oh, is that why there's been bursts of only 8 episodes? I was wondering! And I was surprised that the series seems likes it's going to be a short one, but I won't be too bothered if it is or not. (Not Cuphead, though. It left off at a good point, but I hope more comes out in the future.) -

The new episodes were pretty good. I'm hoping they release this on Blu Ray though.
