Atari released their final console the Jaguar. Sony released their first console the PlayStation and a new mascot to challenge Mario and Sonic. Sega and Nintendo continued with the next systems the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo 64. At the time I didn't own any of the fifth generation consoles. My brother had a PS1. I didn't get one until years later. I also never got a N64 until years later. So I first played the N64 games on the Wii virtual Console. I never had the Atari Jaguar or Sega Saturn. But I did play the games on the PlayStation, what I thought were good. Tomb Raider I and II as well as The Last Revelation and Chronicles. I played Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3. I thought Fighting Force was okay too. I never got the Spyro games until year later, and I have never played them yet.
What does anyone else think of the fifth generation consoles? -

This was one of my favorite generations, it was such a change from before. Things were turning 3D and we got to experience new ways to play games. There was a major shift to CD format for most consoles except the N64 so we saw much larger games with better audio quality than before. I haven't felt the way I felt about the fifth gen consoles again till VR came into play because before that and after games were pretty much the same just upgraded with better graphics but didn't really add anything new. -

In 1995 I didn't care about next gen consoles with fancy shmancy 3D graphics even though I had a sega 32X with 3D games such as Metal Head, Doom and Virtua Fighter, I liked the Sega Genesis and wanted 2D gaming in the video game industry to last a few years longer before moving on to 3D games so I clinged to my Genesis and also played 2D pc games.
In 1996 I moved on to 3D games thanks to Tomb Raider on pc and in 1997 my brother got an N64 and we played it non stop until we got a Dreamcast in 2000, I had a friend that had a Playstation with Crash bandicoot and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater but I never got the chance to play Crash but I did play Pro Skater and a few months later my brother got the game for N64.
Never ownd a Sega Saturn until 2002, as for Crash and Spyro I first played them on my wii in 2008 - Crash: The Wrath of Cortex and Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly. -

I forgot to mention the Sega 32X. Even though it was an add on, I think it was part of the fifth console generation. I thought the two Tony Hawk games on the PS1 were great, the levels to skate through were awesome, along with the soundtrack. And in the second game, you could create a skate park. Two other games what I thought were great on the PS1 were the two Dino Crisis games, although I think the first game is the best. Another game what is my favourite on the PS1 is Metal Metal Gear Solid. It didn't have the best graphics, but the gameplay was great. The boss fights were good and sometimes unique, as you can't use weapons at first against one of them and another, you have to switch control ports. The story was awesome too. Although out of the whole MGS series, it's my second favourite. -

I played Pro Skater 2 and Rayman 2 on Dreamcast, I tried the Virtual Boy at Toys R Us back when it first released and it was horrible. -

I first played the Resident Evil games on the PS1, although I completed the second game first. The original game wasn't bad either, apart from the voice acting. And the third game was good too, but from the three games, I think Resident Evil 2 is the best. I wish I got a N64 at the time because there were a lot of great games, like Turok 2, the first Super Smash Brothers and Lylat Wars/Star Fox 64. Although with some of the games, you needed an expansion pak. -

I loved Dino Crisis as a kid although I feel it was Resident Evil with Dinosaurs.
DC2 wasn’t though it was more action oriented.
But yeah the fifth gen consoles was exciting for sure! 3D changed how we played games and opened up new possibilities. My first jaw dropping moment was with Tomb Raider. It was like now platformers need much more precision. -

The original Tomb Raider games were great, although I have only completed Chronicles. I have completed Tomb Raider II, but that was through skipping some of the levels. I will give the second game another playthrough, and complete it by going through all the levels this time, even though many of them are tough. The games were a good mix of action and platforming, but the controls were not as good. -

Tomb Raider 1&2 are very easy to beat but the 3rd one is hard and so is Revelations, I don't like Chronicles since it screwed up the continuity of when Lara meets Larson for the first time in TR1 and has them meeting for the first time in Chronicles as if the first game never happened and Angel of Darkness was just plain garbage. -

It has been a long time sine I played Tomb Raider II, I might find it easier the next time I play it. One series I did like on the PS1 was the Tekken series. It was a really good series and Tekken 3 is still my favourite, from all the games and it also had two of my favourite characters in the game Brian Fury and Hwoarang.
