This makes me wish they'd make an official sort of mashup game of Sonics 1-3. Not just ports that play back to back to back, but basically a Mania style overhaul with stage transitions, mini-bosses, and maybe even a slightly changed level order. And of course, a new final zone/boss that ties ALL of the games together.
But I digress, it would be neat to see Sonic's 2 and 3 heavily incorporated into this new film! -

I mean, they have Knuckles. And he gets tricked by Eggman. Tell me that's NOT Sonic 3 showing itself. They all but confirmed some source material! -

Sonic 3 or Sonic Adventure. Guy just is easily tricked hehe. But I am hoping it goes so far as to visit locations. I would love to see a theatrical Wing Fortress or Flying Battery! -

Yeah it would be nice if they had a mix of zone-like scenes in the movie. It'll probably be mostly based on earth but I could see a lot of easter eggs.

It may not be too based on Earth honestly. Sure, it could be, but they could also have something force them into the home realm of Sonic or the realm Robotnik now occupies. There are a lot of possibilities and many ways they could add in levels from the Sonic games as locations!
