  Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive. A good way to start a new franchise, with some memorable levels and good music. My three favourite levels from the game are Green Hill, Spring Yard and Starlight Zone. The only thing I'm not a fan of in the first Sonic game on the Mega Drive, are the special stages but that was the only way you could get the Chaos Emeralds.
  
  Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System was different from the Mega Drive version. There were three different zones. Bridge Zone replaced Marble Zone, Jungle Zone replaced Spring Yard Zone, Scrap Brain Zone replaced Starlight Zone as the fifth level and Sky Base Zone was the sixth level. You also found the Chaos Emeralds in the levels.
  
  I think Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive is a good game, but I think the Master System version is better.

  I started out with Sonic 2 and played Sonic 3/Knuckles before I ever got Sonic 1 so when I played the first one I was a bit disappointed. It was still a great game but I was really taken aback by no spindash. Also the fact that if you hit spikes and lose your rings then hit the spikes again you die, there's no grace period after losing your rings till you can take another hit.
  
  Other than that I did like the levels and design of the game and the gameplay was still pretty much the same. My favorite level was Marble Zone but I think this is one of the few games I actually haven't beaten. It was way too hard as a kid and I haven't gone back to it with the intention of beating it. I think I'll make that a goal for this year!

  My least favourite level in the game is Labyrinth Zone, since you spend most of the level under water, also you have to keep yourself alive with the air bubbles. Labyrinth Zone has my least favourite boss from the classic Sonic games. It's not a boss fight, you're just chasing Eggman while avoiding spikes, along with the water rising. I think that boss is tougher than the Final Zone boss.
