For a long time now I've felt that YouTube is no longer what it used to be. I loved YouTube back in the early days of this forum and before. It was all about people creating their own videos and uploading them for people to watch. It still is that way somewhat but it's obvious that YouTube has been transformed into a corporate monster. Everything is monetized, the trending stuff is pushed by big buyers paying to make things trend, and the feed only shows you stuff related to what you're interested in. Which is good but also means you don't really expand your horizon and learn NEW things very often.

I saw a YouTuber mentioning his channel is also on Odysee and I thought I'd check it out. In a way, it reminds me of the YouTube of old. I haven't signed up an account, but it shows a lot of stuff I don't really see on YouTube which may be because of its sheer size.

Odysee is a video sharing app that’s built on the open-source, decentralized, blockchain-based LBRY network.  One of the key factors that differentiates Odysee from Big Tech platforms is its use of the LBRY network as a foundation. Centralized social media platforms such as YouTube store and distribute content via their own servers which gives them complete control over the user-generated content that’s uploaded to their platform and the ways that it can be monetized. This creates a dynamic where the platform has much more power than the users who create the content.

    Has anyone here used Odysee?

I just discovered it not long ago and really like it. I know a lot of other ones exist like peertube but I haven't tried those yet. Odysee has a ton of stuff for gaming which is what I mostly use YT for.

I've been worn out by what's going on with YouTube for a while that I just gave up complaining about what they do to us with ads. I haven't heard about Odysee before now but from the way you sound, it seems like a good place to explore. I just hope they don't end becoming what YouTube is today after they get the numbers game.
