You really should though, the OG Spyro Trilogy has a remake that's on most modern platforms (i.e. Steam, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PS4). They're very fun games. The originals are PS1 games, so if you have a PS1 you can get the originals, also the originals are also available on the PS3 PSN.

You can also rip the CDs if you want to play the originals on an emulator and not be a criminal thot -

Without carrying this topic too far, I'd recommend them as well.
I could see them doing so as a spinoff, but wasn't 3D Blast technically a collect-a-thon? -

Yeah, but that was an isometric 3D Platformer, and it wasn't very good, like most isometric 3D Platformers. But then again, technology was more limited during the Genesis days. I do wish though that when they made the Saturn version, they changed the camera to a regular 3D camera. It might have made 3D Blast actually kinda good, instead of the mediocre game that it currently is.
I could see them doing so as a spinoff, but wasn't 3D Blast technically a collect-a-thon? -

Well that's another way they could make it work, having to collect something to progress through the level. It'd have to be very open though, couldn't be linear. -

Which is why a fast-paced character like Sonic wouldn't work. Because he is so fast, you don't get to observe your environment as closely on an open level. It would have to be a character who isn't very fast.
Another thing that I see in a few Collect-a-thons is the characters like in Banjo-Kazooie and A Hat in Time. While there are Collect-a-thons that don't really have as fun characters as Super Mario 64, I would love to see characters introduced in a Collect-a-thon spin-off.
