I really dislike the "like" culture. Instead of telling someone what you think, you just press a button to turn your complex opinion into a Thumbs Up (or Thumbs Down, if a service dares to allow *gasp* disliking these days) icon. Downvotes are even worse (e.g on reddit) since they actually hide the posts that go against the tide.

I agree, downvotes shouldn't make something promoted less, YouTube needs to bring back dislikes

I think it's dumb that YouTube removed dislikes, like the only ones who got real bullying from it was YouTube and Late Show TV channels...

Yes that part of the equation is dumb too! It does not stop the creators from seeing their ratioed videos, they still have access to that. But I've found better alternatives that frequent more often that still allow dislikes.

Maybe it's a bit weird that I'm commenting on a thread that hasn't been updated in over a year, but I completely agree with the points that are being made here. I like to have a degree of personal interaction with the users I know on social media, and just dropping a like then calling it a day really doesn't fit that envelope.

Nah, it's not weird. This is the random thoughts forum so to speak, anything goes, and it's really not outdated. It's still a problem and like I said, it's the reason why I got rid of any sort of likes, ratings, emoji reactions from the forum. It may be a bit old fashioned but it is what I believe is best for here.

I like dislikes(For the weird things[You know what I mean]) and likes(For people you think deserve it), but neither is also good for anonymity!

I sort of admire the neat and trendy side of it, liking if it cheers you up or disliking if you find it depressing. Comments are limited to actual commenting comments now.
