Whether it's on a console or PC, you need a controller to play a game. One of my favourites is the GameCube controller. It is comfortable also you could use the controller for some games on the Wii. Another of my favourites is the PlayStation Duel Shock controller. It wasn't the original on Sony's console, but it improved on the original with the addition L3 and R3 analog sticks. The first time I had a Duel Shock controller was on the PS2, as it became the official controller. It didn't change much throughout the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4. That's why it's one of my favourite controller's. It was familiar.

I think Scott the Woz roughly summed up my opinion on the DualShock 4. It's a really good controller, but by the same token it's the one I've consistently had the most problems with (L2 serving the same function as up on the left stick, R2 not fully working despite pressing it all the way, analog sticks not registering my inputs at certain diagonal points). Otherwise, I'd have to say the Dualshock 2. -

One of the major issues of being a tall guy who likes games is that controllers tend to be built on the... small side. Probably for people who don't have giant gorilla hands like me. By that merit, the DualShock 4 is probably theost comfortable controller I've had to use, with the X1 controller also being nice. The GameCube one was alright, but I barely had a chance to use one, and when I did back in the day it was the "player two" controller. You know the one, with the busted buttons and the missing analog thumbpads, that sort of thing. The Pro controller for WiiU/Switch is also a good one, and pretty much mandatory for me. God help me if I'm playing with the Switch's Joy-Cons. Cramps for days. -

Let it be said that I totally can relate with you there. Yeah, the JoyCon suck for me, especially when I'm playing MK8Deluxe at a friend's house and have to use them on their sides. Ugh.
The X1 controller has me impressed; I used to hate the thumbsticks and I still think the triggers have a little too much give to them, but I still like the controller overall. Speaking of Xbox, am I the only one who likes the original Duke? Maybe having a 9 inch handspan has something to do with it

When I got my original X-Box it was second hand, and it came with the S controller. But I have used the official controller, when there was an X-Box kiosk setup in a game shop. So far the biggest controller I have is the gamepad. There were also some other controllers that were released, which you don't see much of now. I remember a Resident Evil 4 controller shaped like a chainsaw. I never had one, but I guess it might of made any game unplayable. -

I still like the Xbox 360 controller, its comfortable, well built and has great design.
The Dualshock controller is another favourite of mine, while a bit small it does the job .
I also actually like the odd beast that is the steam controller as being fairly new to PC gaming its a great transition to mouse and keyboard style gameplay. -

I felt like the Steam controller was a little awkward to hold. I always had to reach to hit any of the buttons. -

Another controller I like is SNES controller. For me it made fighting games like Street Fighter II Turbo more easier. Also I see it as the template for how all modern controllers look today, with button layout and shoulder buttons. -

Never used it but the Atari Jaguar controller has to be the worst! Has a whole bunch of buttons that makes it too crowded. -

I never played the Atari Jaguar. But the controller did look too big, I think it was bigger than the original X-Box controller.
Another controller I thought was too big, and I didn't like was the WiiU gamepad. Even if you used the pro controller, the gamepad had to be left on. Also you had to plug in a separate charger for it. It might have been useful for some games like Darksiders II, where it showed your inventory screen. But I found it distracting.
