Metal Sonic does not have his own story. It makes sense as in this game he has no mind of his own, he just follows orders. Metal Sonic in the boss battles fights against you, not with you. Unlike the other fights where the rivals attempt to destroy Robotnik as well, Metal Sonic does not, he just protects him. Here's how the plot pretty much is. Everyone has their own seperate story so I'll go through Sonic and Silver's in detail, while leave you to fill in the holes with Knuckles and Shadow since they're pretty much the same plot. Sonic: After Tails and Amy vanish, Sonic goes to investigate. Obviously, the first person he goes for is Robotnik. Robotnik reveals to him that he has transformed his friends into cards. Just then, Knuckles shows up and demands to know where the Master Emerald is, also suspecting Robotnik to be behind it. Robotnik flees not before offering a reward. Whoever can reach him first will get their answer. Sonic wins the match, but doesn't get the card after destroying his giant machine. Silver shows up and also begins asking questions at Robotnik. Again, Robotnik flees and both Sonic and Silver race towards him, with Silver emphasising that he has to get to Robotnik first. After beating Silver and Robotnik again, Sonic is teleported to a carnival where he meets Shadow, who was also teleported. Shadow is out to rescue the Doctor, while Sonic is off to save his friends. The two race off to see if they can find the Doctor. Eventually, Sonic loses Shadow, but he finds Robotnik. With him is Metal Sonic and Robotnik sends him after him. Sonic beats Metal Sonic, only to encounter Silver once more. After defeating Silver and Robotnik again, Robotnik reveals that he holds a camera that allows him to transform objects of pictures that he takes into cards. This finally convinces Silver that the man he's chasing is not Robotnik, as NEGA would never leave such technology behind to get snatch so easily, however this information isn't reveal to Sonic just yet. Robotnik goes off again, and Sonic encounters Knuckles once more. The two race off after him. Sonic once again ditches Knuckles, and finds himself facing Metal Sonic again, except this time he's an exact duplicate of Sonic with the ability to use all of his moves. (He was handicapped in the previous race.) After defeating Metal Sonic and Robotnik in a boss battle, Robotnik reveals his true identity to Sonic. He's not Robotnik, but NEGA. Grown frustrated by the repeated failures, and decides to destroy the Earth, using the energy from Amy's card to power up his weapon. Tails is broken free, and the duo race off into space. After going through a massive space station with the aid of Knuckles and Shadow (This entire level is a solo battle, you're not racing against anyone), Sonic finally lands on NEGA's ship. It's here where Sonic has his final encounter with Metal Sonic, who's trying to prevent Sonic from reaching the Doctor. Metal Sonic fails and Sonic destroys Robotnik's ship, as well as rescues Amy. NEGA's plans are destroyed and space once again becomes a dump site. Silver: Silver is desperate to look for the doctor. When he encounters him in the forest, he meets up with Shadow who says he got a transmission from Robotnik 6 hours ago about some strange thing following him. Robotnik is baffled by this so called transmission, and claims he never made one. Robotnik flees from the scene, and Silver gives chase, while Shadow right behind him in order to stop him from reaching the doctor. After catching up, Silver continues demanding answers while Shadow is puzzled by the Doctor's odd change. After a boss battle, Silver encounters Sonic. (You should know what happens here.) After Silver beats Sonic, he continues asking questions, and eventually the camera is brought up, but before he could get any answers, he's teleported to a Carnival. Knuckles pops up as well, and says if he noticed anything the Doctor was carring, a Camera of sorts. Silver shrugs him off and goes forward and Knuckles gives chase, not willing to lose the Master Emerald to some jackass. Silver loses Knuckles and comes across Robotnik, along with Metal Sonic. The two battle it out, and Silver comes out victorious. Silver then meets up with Sonic once more (you should know what happens.) After defeating both Robotnik and Sonic, Silver is convinced that the man he's chasing is infact NEGA. Silver then meets up with Shadow, who is still unware about the Doctor's identity but is still suspicious. Wanting to get to him first, the two give chase. Silver encounters Robotnik after losing Shadow, and once again he must fight against Metal Sonic, except this time he has all of his abilities. Silver wins against Metal Sonic, and defeats him along with Robotnik. Robotnik then reveals his identity, confirming Silver's acccusations and tells the doctor that he's taking him back to their time now, but NEGA escapes. Just then the real Robotnik makes his appearence and Shadow catches up. The three make there way onto the space station, where Silver gets the aid of Shadow and Knuckles. Silver eventually reaches the ship NEGA borded and has one final encounter against Metal Sonic. After defeating both Metal and NEGA, I forgot this part because it wasn't very memorable. The Knuckles and Shadow encounters are the same in both races. Shadow mocks Knuckles and Knuckles gets pissed. Their encounters against Metal Sonic is pretty much the same as Sonic and Silver as well. |

Also the last level you don't race anyone. It's just one person in the level. Although you have to finish the level before the timer runs out. |

Oh and Knuckles looks AWESOME in his armor gloves and shoes!! He's just so cool looking like that. The rest of the characters I don't care for the clothing. |
