Sonic the Hedgehog is a series that many of us love (because why else would you be on a Sonic forum? ;P). However, even your favorite series has those elements you wish could be changed. And that's where this topic comes in. If you could change one thing about the series, what would it be? For me, I'd change the personality Sonic's had from Colors onward. It bothers me what the character has become since 2010, especially after Black Knight pretty much nailed him. Here's my problem with post 2010 Sonic. Since Colors, the character has become a braggart who sees fit to boast about everything he does and little else. And yes, I know that Sonic is, by nature, someone who is cocky, with a tendency to mouth-off and act all snarky and shit. And yes, he very self-assured. I get that. And I was fine with that in the other games. However, Colors blew that far out of proportion, flanderizing the guy. And flanderization is nothing I'm a fan of. So, here's what I would want done; bring back Sonic's characterization from the Storybook games. Secret Rings and Black Knight both excelled in the way Sonic was written. They made him a character who was not only snarky, confident, or arrogant, but also someone who could be determined, relentless, and an irrepressible badass, while also showing off softer traits for Sonic, such as his kindness, concern, and sympathy. And it was all done without overblowing any of the traits I just listed. This made him seem like an actual character and not a model on a tv screen. Though I will admit that Lost World was an improvement in this. It's not the ideal portrayal of the character, but I do find Sonic fairly likable in that game. Anyone else have something they want to change? |

Perfect Idea Holly...T'would make Sonic albeit more likeable and somewhat more relatable. Lost world was a good improvement, but somewhat unnoticeable to a newcomer or someone who pays Sonic no mind. We have no idea what sega could plan next...his Colours persona could be blown out into a Devil May Cry 3 Dante. If I could change something...I would make the characters become involved more.this is typically what many people want as they don't their favourite characters to be inconsistent to future stories...which led to one of Dragon Ball Z's downfalls...which is what Yuji Naka bases Sonic off of.Sega did well with generations, but it was short lived sucess...at least to me.If they cannot make them playable...at least make them relevant to the story. Or is that too much to ask? |

Good vibes.

What would I change? I would have Sonic 4 improved slightly (physics just like the originals, MUCH fewer boost pads, everything else is fine). That way, it might have caught on better and people would have bought enough for Episode III to be made and released. I don't like my plotlines being unfinished! And I actually liked Sonic 4, dangit! |

Is it too much to ask? No, not at all. In fact, I agree with you that the characters need to me more involved. Think about it, Sega's created all these characters, and yet the only ones that have gotten much use as of late are Sonic, Tails, and Eggman. What I don't agree with, however, is that Sega did well with Generations in regards to the other characters. In fact, I see Generations as an example of how not to use the other characters. Think about it. All throughout the game, every one of Sonic's friends, sans Tails - and even he didn't do a whole hell of a lot - were just there to be rescued, or in the case of Silver (Shadow too if you want to count him) fought you with little reason. They added very little to the story. Sonic never even talked to most of them! On top of that, in the fight with the Time Eater, not one of them made a move to help the Sonics when they were having trouble. Not. A. One. And it's not like these guys don't know how to fight, because they do. Every. Single. One of the them has at least some fighting skill. Hell, Shadow and Silver can go Super for crying out! But no, they get relegated to little more than cheerleaders who won't shut up about homing shots. It's pathetic. @Finite: Give us levels that are actually original and new enemies and I'd be sold. Freaking lazy-ass Sonic 4... |

I agree on the on the Time Eater Incident,I believe Sega just didn't want to include them as it revolved around the two sonics concept. As for generations way of handling characters...it wasn't a good way,I see that now,but I just wanted them to be at least included within the final product...which is good enough for me...I'd rather have something than nothing as I am not a "needy" person. (Holly...I believe I remember you...you used to be Special Operative Blaire the last time I had gotten on here) |

Hmph...I'd rather die a warrior than a coward(not sure if you could call them cowards, but they certainly weren't helping). I comprehend exactly what you are saying...Sonic Heroes was more than enough to enforce that point(not that I hate the game). |

Right. They helped Sonic out in Heroes - why in the hell couldn't they have done that in Generations? |

Really, the only thing that bothers me about Sonic anymore besides his personality is his voice. I just don't care for Roger's Sonic voice, not that he isn't a good voice actor. I would switch Sonic's voice back to Jason Griffith, he had the role perfect in Unleashed and Black Knight, I was pretty attached to that guy. |

As much as I like Roger, I have to agree that Jason was fantastic in his later years. |

I would have changed what they did with Shadow. Some people may agree with me, but Shadow was much more confident and cocky in Sonic Adventure 2, even grinning and speaking loudly and challenging people. He was a real badass, he didn't care who he had to go through to get his way and he worked alone. But after the Adventures they brought him back and he let go of his past, became quiet and his voice was whispery and low, he was questioning himself and he even joined G.U.N., the people responsible for ruining his life. It was like his personality did a huge 180. Doom's Eye, Mephiles, and even Omega have all at one point threatened his life and he didn't just take them out without a second thought. I didn't much enjoy that. It was like they tried to humanize him and make him good 'deep down'. I would have left him dead at the end of Sonic Adventure 2, but brought him back for party games and such. Some people may disagree with me, and that's okay, we all see Shadow a little differently. |

I can somewhat agree, Shadow was pretty amazing in Adventure 2, his character was incredible, with a voice to match. I don't know if I would have killed off Shadow, but that would have certainly saved some confusion with how he was brought back and his back story being complicated. |

Oh man, as a child the fact that he was willing to die for Maria, to me, spoke extreme leaps about his personality. I loved how he was hellbent on avenging Maria, how strong he was when he had his traumatic flashbacks (very evident of PTSD even after all that time.) and pushed through. He was successful, never allowed his partners to get killed, but wasn't tied down to them. He didn't actually care if they lived or died until he suddenly remembered that Maria would have wanted that. I think he should have died because he served his purpose. He wasn't the kind of guy, in my opinion, who would have wanted to do anything else with his life because everyone and everything he knew and loved was gone or destroyed. He didn't seem like the getting over traumas type. I loved him for the simple fact, as I stated before, that he showed me as a child that if you don't have anything to die for, you have nothing to live for. |
