So it's no secret that our activity isn't near the level it once used to be. This place used to get upwards of 30,000 posts a month, over 1,000 posts a day. No it's not dead here, we still have a stable community, just not what it once was. In light of that today I went around looking for other Sonic websites, forums, etc to affiliate with and try to get some new members. As it so happens there aren't that many Sonic sites out there anymore. I've discovered many have either shut down or changed focus onto something else. Many forums are completely dead and have been for years. The Sonic forum is really a dying breed not just because lack of interest(which I'm sure Sonic has lost some popularity since the early 2000s) but people just don't go to forums as much anymore. There are really only a very small few active Sonic forums left. I kinda wanna know where all the Sonic forums are! Does anyone know of active ones still other than Sonic Retro and SSMB? It used to be everyone and their mother were making new Sonic forums in hopes of striking it big but now I really don't see any start up forums anymore either. There's a lack of interest in creating a good forum which ultimately means there are no new ones to make up for old dead ones. Anyway I'm trying to affiliate with as many sites as I can and get us out there but I'm only one person and my reach is only limited whereas someone else may be able to reach another part of the web I'm not at. Anyone have some ideas of ways to get our name out there? |

I noticed the same. Some I used to go on, such as http://www.sonicanime.net and http://www.themysticalforestzone.com and http://www.greenhillzone.co.uk either are hardly are getting any activity anymore, or have become defunct. It makes me sad, I used to love those websites so much, and they helped strengthen my love for the Sonic series even more. Here's some that I think might still be operational, though I'm not entirely certain. If someday we meet in person in the near future, and I had recently done anything that would confirm that I had become a Brony (which as of now I am not one), such as if I had posted on a Pony-related fan-site, drawn a Pony-themed artwork, contributed to a Pony fanfic, or anything else along those lines. If I have done anything like that, I want you to punch me in the face without warning. This make sound like I'm joking, but I am absolutely serious about this. Ignore any future statements retracting this if I ever make any. Though if you do, please first confirm that it is me who is doing it, and not some Brony who is posing as me and wants to see me get punched. I do not wish to go down the path of the Bronies, and hopefully those of you reading this will help me so that it stays that way, if god forbid I ever even attempt it. Thank you. | |

Yeah it is sad. I love themysticalforestzone. It's such a shame a lot of them couldn't last. A few still do though but I don't really notice any new ones being made like they used to. When I started this forum there were hundreds of little start up forums. |

The only other Sonic board that I'm aware of/remember (that haven't been mentioned already) is Sonic SCANF, but I've never been a member of their forums and can't say an awful lot about how active they are or what the general community is like. There is also Chao Island, but unfortunately the forum community quality has changed since I've been with them; to say the least, I don't really visit their boards anymore outside of contacting friends of mine who are still there and using the main site's chao raising database. I used to really like the Mystical Forest Zone myself, although I never signed up with them either. I've been finding it difficult to come across active forum communities for other fandoms as well this year and haven't visited Sonic Blast in quite a while, so I never noticed the declining activity. Maybe Sonic Boom will spark some more interest in the franchise later on?

I would hope so. Might get some new fans of the series that aren't familiar with it. I really like themysticalforestzone for sprites and backgrounds. Really helpful when making graphics that are Sonic-related.

I still have time to drop in from time to time, but forums seem to be a dying trend? I partially see why, too. There are social media sites. Youtube. Life things that naturally needs tending to: bills, college, socializing and just life. I assume a great number of people here are not as active anymore simply due to growing up, the lack of interest or that the place just isn't like "the good old times" of =SB= when... well you get the point. I don't like seeing forums die off, especially ones that have had quite a long staying history with a community that could back it up, once upon a time. <=/ |

Well... as evidenced by the fact I haven't posted on here in years I would have to agree with your point, Metallix. However, I did always think about logging back on to talk to the friends I made here on Sonic Blast. A different format to traditional social media, but still a really fun pastime for me, especially since this site helped me to understand the internet and put across my ideas in a way that I wouldn't be afraid, y'know? (And, well, introduced me to emoticons. Whoops.) |

I have noticed it too. Due to the rise of social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter. Instagram etc etc forums of all kinds are struggling to keep active. Only the highly dedicated stick around. We can only carry on in the hope that the popularity of forums makes a comeback. |

I sadly have recognized the same trend, aside from the mentioned sites, I've been struggling to relaunch Protocol Cy-Fox and by extension Cy-Fox.com. My team's starting to wake up though, we're discussing new concepts and doing research. Hopefully our work will be able to stimulate some growth in fanworks. So long as Sonic Blast stands, then I will still be here. |

a long time ago I tried to start up a sprite movie inspired by the mods/admins of this site, with a story written by someone of the community. I'd be willing to give this another shot at some point in the future if people would be willing to give me a hand. I kinda grew up with this site (joining in 08 and RPing with a lot of cool people) and I still like to visit from time to time. I'd like to do what I can to bring some activity back to the site. |

I haven't been on here in ages and now I feel bad... Also, yes. Because of things like YouTube and tumblr, fansites and fan forums are a dying bread, which is sad because I love fan communities like this  When I'm looking around for info, not just about Sonic but other fanbases too, I find so many dead forums and fansites and it's kinda depressing...
