Dungeon-based tourney. Have a team create a massive dungeon for the players. You win by completing the dungeon first. There could be a "life points" system so that persons are eliminated if they fail too many challenges on the way. The dungeon doesn't have to have one path to victory. Players could go it alone or with a team/party, that means there could be one winner or multiple. PVP is allowed but not the focus. The dungeon, besides have branching paths, would have multiple kinds of challenges- area puzzles, monsters, maybe even NPCs and riddles, or earned shortcuts/hints. I believe it would be more fun if a team brought the dungeon together- simply because it would be a large task. It might require artistic/graphic skill to generate a map of the place, or other things. A story writer if you wanted that sort of thing. Different people could work on different levels of the dungeon, or different kinds of challenges, and some folks would get to actively work with players once the tourny got started (think staff at haunted houses haha). It's no a one-GM kind of game. |

Sorry for my ridiculously long posts all the time! 8P Avii's Famous Last Words: Cos, If you are reading this message, then I have literally dug myself into a hole from which I cannot escape, and desperately need someone to /tp to. It's... It's dark and... I think there's something down here with me. So cold. Starving... " PS: I was digging an accessway straight down to the new tunnel. My calculations were off. I seem to have hit bedrock...." PPS: I can't see the sky from here... - Avii, Playing Minecraft with survival teammates | |

I was pondering how Amarok's idea would work, and I hit upon a format that might have some storyline with puzzles. this idea is in tandem with my tag-team idea, quoted above. The tournament I'd run would take place on an Myst-like island (like the game). in the past, we had a thread designated as the place where the characters can interact between rounds. this time, the thread would be the central library. A green book is the way off the island. The book is missing pages. There's a note beside a corpse that explains the significance of the book and each Age accessible from the island are the match arenas. the portal to an Age won't activate until two players are trying to access it. there's one page per Age, and once inside, they have to track down the page. limited input from the organizers here: I'm thinking of a basic "pick a number between one and ten, and based on how close they are to the number they pick, they stumble closer to the page. once the page is found, the Age won't let both players leave, so they have to fight. only the winner can leave, the winner in this case being the tag team controlled by the victorious player. Because they'll be a set amount of arenas based on the amount of people who sign up, there will be multiple pages per Age. The end result is that the winning team from each match will accumulate pages for repairing the green book. The losing teams become trapped in each Age. |

I'd put my vote down for the tag team and the Myst island. It would be an interesting little storyline while still keeping the combat aspect of the tournament. Human Chess sounds novel but I doubt it would work in a tournament format. Maybe as its own campaign or what have you. |

Right, then. Just to make this official, I have made a poll for people to choose what they prefer for the next tournament. I know people have already said they prefer one thing or another, but I want everyone to have a chance to decide after looking at the list of ideas. Everyone, please cast your votes! |

Right. So it looks like I'm running the next tournament. Give me a while to get things set up. |
