OP will be meant for list of idea summaries, offers to be an organizer, and general tournament structure discussion. THIS IS NOT A SIGNUP THREAD.

Ideally, Those who are chosen as having the best ideas for the structure and/or storyline of the thread should be the next Tournament organizers. Let's contribute to make the next Tournament awesome!

Restrictions: Organizers must try to use as much, if not all of the signup format once the tournament begins its signup stage. It is tried, tested and proven to be the best format. Improvements are welcome, however.

k? I'll go first. My idea has little to do with the storyline, and more to do with structure. I'll have to partner up with someone else if Tourney Seven is to have a significant storyline.

I was thinking of a double elimination tournament again, with a separate list of arenas for the combatants to choose from. The main difference between Tournies Six and Seven is that I was thinking of a multi-character per person tournament.

This would not be a tag-team match where a person can switch out their characters as it suits them. It would share some similarities with Marvel Versus Capcom. Each applicant would have to create two character profiles. Only one character can be "active" during a match. The "reserve" character would be available to perform either one attack move or one defense move. There will be a limit on how often this can occur in a match, of course.

To support this change, the signup sheet will be altered to list what the character can do while in reserve.

Great, now I'll have this running through my head for the rest of the night.

It sounds like a pretty fun idea on paper. I know I've got at least two characters laying around that could be converted to fit such a format. But of course conversely that means more work for those who don't so that could be unappealing.

This naturally makes things more flexible for the players so you can somewhat mitigate advantages and disadvantages from the get go. Though then you run the risk of players counterpicking based on what their opponent chooses. Though ideally you should have players act based upon what their characters would actually do instead of what's in their best interests.

The 'support' character mechanic sounds neat. Set number of moves is definitely a must, or if you feel like really doing things the MvC way, a set recharge time on assists. Say, one assist per 3~4 turns.

All in all it'll have to come down to interest. But this definitely has the potential to be something fun if you ask me.

Hmm I'm down with this as well. I just noticed this section as I haven't been active on the forum lately but yeah, basically what Ludi said. Maybe we should all PM our character sheets instead of publically post them too, although that could easily clutter up a PM box. Feel like not knowing makes a battle more exciting~

I'd have contributed ideas if I had them. But coming up with things has never been my forte. I've always been more of an idea expander than anything.

I was having thoughts about that since I've got a few characters and the groundwork for a setting that lend themselves perfectly to a clash of fighters from across worlds. But the story itself is pretty weak at the moment. No guarentee I'd be as commited come tourney time, either.

I'll share any solid story ideas as they come to me, however.

I'm going to suggest something, and it's going to be a little outside the box.

How about we ditch the fighting?

The =SB= tourney's great and all, but it usually leads to the same thing. I'll toss in a vote for the tag team idea, but I think we should toss another challenge in to this, something that doesn't specifically need fighting. Could we possibly do something puzzle based, or story based?

The basis of a tournament is a series of contests. If we don't have a tournament based on fighting, what would you suggest for your puzzle or story idea?

I wasn't specifically requesting a puzzle or story based system. If that was the case, I guess it would involve a series of some sort of quests, but I digress.

I was trying to suggest that we do something other than fighting for the tourney. The fighting aspect could still be there, but there would be some other challenge for the participants to complete. I just don't think that the overall goal should have to be "defeat all others" all the time.

I see. ok, I had just read this, and this evening I was mulling over the possibility of doing a Myst or Riven style puzzle as part of this tournament. I'm really wondering if this could be pulled off.

I have a few random ideas, so here we go I guess.(haven't really divided into the rest of the ideas thrown so I'll make a post on that later)

Monster/Avatar Fighting = Characters sign up to compete in a tournament, only its not them that are fighting, but monsters/robots/avatars/game pieces/whatever that are fighting instead of them. Some what like Pokemon, or Digimon, or Monster Rancher, and so on.
- Now, this idea can be inputted several ways.
-- One way would be to have the characters create a character bio of said creature/robot/whatever and be customized yet still following the general rules and restrictions to submitting a character.
-- Second way would be to have the GM(s) create standard monsters/robots/whatever that each character has to choose from. So, four characters are available to pick but each has different pros and cons, different powers and abilities, and so on. The real challenge would be how the writer/member used said monster-thingy to win the tournament, seeing as they'll most likely be going up against their own monster's type and so on. Of course, we something can be added to said standard creature because of the owner of monster-whatever. Also, I see an evolving thingy happening. So those that move onto the next round will have their monster-thing upgrade to something else which unlocks more moves, attacks, abilities, and so on.

Team Chess = (this may be elaborate) Two teams of so many players face against each other. Each player is classed as a certain 'chess piece,' meaning they can only take so many steps in whichever direction they're allowed to move in. The tournament is won when all or most of the players on one team is down. Of course, each player(member) gets to move towards whichever player on the other side they want to. Once two opposing players meet up, they duke it out like they normally do in the previous tournaments. Once a player is defeated or forfeits the player is restore/healed(this can be optional) and continues onward through the 'chess map' to find their next opponent.
