Marble Garden Act 1
|
[The sequel to Aura's Lore] ~~~~~ The mist had finally made way before the sun's final rays of light beamed on the lush entanglement of trees. Even in the tiny gaps of leaves and branches, there painted in the sky a yellow-orange color that the sun often makes before departing and letting his graceful moon watch over the world. It was one thing to witness the beauty of a sunset, but it was another to pick up the pace in a deep forest, which would be making noise soon. They all knew a dim light would prove difficult in guarding the royal gates. A group of Sapphirian and Life soldiers hid themselves behind the tall trees while a couple of other soldiers climbed to the highest canopies. The hunters had already laid their traps in bushes, ready to pull their enemies should they ever come close. They were all so patient, standing so idly, so skillfully in place that Emerald Commander Keith Banecutter had to jokingly question if his squad had posed as models for portraits before their military positions. Then again, there should not have been any surprise coming from the general, seeing as how he had trained all of his weakling boys into supposedly hard men. Now was the time to see how hard these men could really fight. Banecutter, in his determination, longed to see if his lessons made for a successful night. Hours drew on into night, and one such solider finally had the nerve to break his focus. Just up ahead, a cowardly man, Gunner, was running towards the group in a panicked state, crunching over leaves, breaking off tree branches, and tripping here and there before getting back. The silence was definitely broken when the man cried out, "They're here! The bandits! The bandits! Help me!" "The fool!" one soldier whispered to his hiding partner. "They'll catch him before long!" But Gunner was right. The shadows behind him crept up and transformed into physical beings in the forms of bandits, holding knives and daggers. They were dressed in their traditional ragged clothes, but the torn sleeves displayed their muscular structure. Their arms were made to break noses and punch through boulders. It was going to happen to Gunner if he didn't hurry back to the group, alive. |

Hydrocity Act 2
|
Keith: *in shock* Men, Draw your weapons, protect the healers, and stay close! *saying so as he draws his own sword (''Onslaught'' as he called it. A truly rare weapon as it has the capability to pierce through a defense. Most others would call it the ghost blade as you wouldn't even feel it break your defense until after it would initially strike the foe itself). I've been waiting for a chance to test my soldiers medal! *breaks off of his perch in the canopy to land directly on the shoulders of one of the bandits* ''Just dropping in'', as he said jumping off the bandit and thrusting his sword right into the back of the bandit while in midair. And THAT is just the beginning! |

Marble Garden Act 1
|
(Warning: Post contains a minor display of graphic violence.) Soldiers all around gathered around one another: A couple of soldiers each stood in front of a healer while the rest prepared their weapons and fought the intruding bandits. "Gunner," one of the soldiers called out. "To me!" Gunner did not budge, unable to see in the dark forest. His limbs trembled as he stood in place, not knowing what would hit him. Like a good little soldier, he unsheathed his sword and hoped to wing a kill within the chaos. The soldier that called for him started for his rescue, slicing down the bandits that blocked his path. When he drew in near, he called for Gunner again, but Gunner remained in place. The soldier examined Gunner, scanning down to his feet, which were monstrously caught in a vine. "Gunner, your feet! Ugh!" he called out in frustration as Gunner stupidly looked down at his feet and tried to wriggle them out. Having no choice but to save the little fool, the soldier continued toward him all the while fighting off these foes. One bandit managed to keep him occupied, its hard-hitting attacks pushing the soldier to the blood-soaked ground here and there. In the stress of battle, a soldier must multitask. In other words, he must maintain his composure, keep his guard up against his enemies, and watch out for his comrades. On top of that, he must face his fate: Will he survive or not? In his eyes, Gunner's fate was predetermined and before he could finish off his own opponent, one bandit sneaked up behind the little soldier and ran his knife through his neck. Grabbing the man's decapitated head by the hair, the bandit ordered his allies to retreat now that they had in their possession a valuable item. The soldier who tried to rescue Gunner, on the other hand, was spared his life and the rest of Keith Banecutter's group met up at their rendezvous point. Murmurs from other soldiers began circulating. "That kid was no match for those sneaky bandits. All he did was stand there!" one soldier said. "Such a pity. I heard he wished to be commander one day," another said. "Serves him right to be decapitated. He had no brain whatsoever!" a third responded. "Enough!" Banecutter shouted. The fennec fox, who was tall and bulky for his species, possessed a certain intensity in his voice that silenced the shrinking group at once. The soldier had followed behind the commander, suddenly withdrawn and reserved. Edited by Dark Hero, May 18 2014, 09:53 PM.

Marble Garden Act 1
|
It had been two whole days since the incident in the Forest of Liam. The Life Palace was now preparing for a feast held for their man of honor, who happened to be a long-time family friend of King Rey. "Oh, ho, ho, King Rey. I see your grandson is at his little antics again," a bearded, plump man replied, spotting Kluyah, who was counting the seconds on his fingers until he could take his next bite. "Ah, such an inquisitive fellow, I might add." "Sometimes, even I can't understand him, Mr. Bellington," King Rey replied, smiling. 'Oh no, Your Highness. Call me Ricard. All my friends do, and you are my friend," the bearded man insisted. Ah, Mr. Ricard Bellington of the Dervish Empire, a stout, jolly human of Caucasian ethnicity. As prime minister, Bellington was always slumped in governmental paperwork and monitoring the legislative forces at work. One, he claimed, could never fathom the stupidity of some of these lawmakers as they created laws to prevent little children from sucking on candies and enforcing men to be required in the military draft. Of course, Mr. Bellington was known by all to be fond of drink and war stories--it was his absolute favorite source of entertainment away from his duties--but he was a lenient man. The king, or should we say his best friend, Dervin would not see to it that those ridiculous laws get passed anyway. The Dervish Empire, like Bellington, may possess the finest, most brutal weapons that even the Ruby Kingdom can ever imagine sicking their hands on, but this empire had some form of soft spot... at least, for the innocent. Bellington was just invited to the generous Life Palace's feast and if anyone knew the man, he was the life of the party, telling Dervish stories that were passed to him from his own office and into the ears of everyone else. He relished good drink, good food, and humor. "Ah... your friends! Come, sit beside ol' Ricard. Haha," Bellington called to the group of animals lingering in the doorway. "Come, you're not interrupting. His Majesty and I were just praising his little Kluyah." The group--Cyber, Leyak, Roald, Snow, Lossal, Hans, and Kelly--proceeded into the room and took their seats. They each blinked their eyes at the strange man, looking as if they had never seen a human before. "Oh, see how much he grows in just a year? Last time I saw the boy, he was just a wee lad about as short as the lot of ye!" Bellington asked. He turned his head to the group, examining each of them. "I trust you all have been here for a year, yes? To my understanding, this isn't everyone. Where is everyone else? They'd best not be shy! Come out!" "Well," Hans began, scratching his head. "Two of my friends are trying to wake up. Hehe." "Mr. Bellington, I feel it isn't necessary to call them all down yet," a maid spoke as she refilled the prime minister's wine. "Perhaps they are all sleeping?" "Hmmm... a bunch of party poopers, eh?" Bellington said, letting out a loud, hearty laugh. Edited by Dark Hero, May 18 2014, 11:46 PM.

Lossal: *sighs* I give them the day off yesterday and they sleep in today... typical among there age group. Oh well then, Hans, Kelly. I congratulate you two for being on time. You'll be rewarded for it later, after the feast. *thinking to self* ''Maybe someone forgot to tell Muddy the special occasion was a feast?'' Kelly: Thank you Master Lossal! --------- Meanwhile..... Dairu: Sir Thunderkeep, message for you from Lord Commander Keith Thunderkeep: Eh? let me see it then. Dairu: Yes your royalty. *hands the letter to Thunderkeep* Thunderkeep: *silently reads the letter to self* .... Soldier, I'd hate to ask you to do more, but I need you tell Keith that i've recalled him and his militia back to life palace. Dairu: Yes your royalty *leaves the room* Thunderkeep: Hmm... This doesn't bode well, I wish I wouldn't have to impede on Rey's feast, but the business is definatly urgent... |

Marble Garden Act 1

"Come on, man. You get up!" Zach shouted at Muddy, rolling around in his bed. "I'm tired... you," Muddy insisted. There was a good amount of drool plastered on his pillow from whence he slept. "Ergh, I'm 'bout to come up there and drag you out, fathead!" Zach said, turning on his back and raising up his arms to reach the railing that supported Muddy's bed. "Good. That means you'll get up first!" Muddy said, poking his head out and looking down at Zach. "No! I mean... ergh," Zach concluded. Feeling defeated, he jumped out of bed and got dressed. When his senses were wide awake, he could smell the delicious aroma of ham and casserole from downstairs. Chuckling, he tied his woolen boots and in the doorway, he said, "Well, pal, looks like you're gonna miss the feast!" "What?!" Muddy exclaimed, rolling to the edge of the bed and falling to the floor. Zach's laughter was growing fainter as he headed to the feast, and Muddy was left to dress himself as fast as he could so he wouldn't miss the pig's head. ~~~~~ "Not hungry, I presume?" a maid asked as she changed Amon's bedsheets. Amon, who was sitting at the window seal, remained faced toward the view of windy trees and morning sun, but he nodded in order to let the maid know he was listening. His thoughts were occupied by the upcoming mission that he was scheduled for. A year had flown by already and he wondered if his inferior alchemic skills had improved as much as his inherited agility. Another year, and he was still Mephisto's slave pet. The sniveling demon was laughing at him from inside, claiming that he could never break free. What if this genet could? "Are you leaving, miss?" he finally replied. "Yes, I am almost done," the maid said. "Please, before I take my leave, come down to the feast. An important man would like to meet you." "I'll think on it," Amon simply said. Kelly: Oh! Hey Zach! *jumps up from the table and gives Zach a hug that he most likely never asked for nor did he ever want*. Goodmorning! Lossal: .... hhhmmm. *Thunderkeep enters the room* Thunderkeep: King Rey, I'd hate to interfere with your feast, but it's very important that we discuss this. King Rey: Very well, what is it that we need to discuss of that's so very urgent? Thunderkeep: This Letter, sent from one of the scouting parties. *hands it to King Rey* King Rey: *takes the letter and reads it out loud*. ''It was a calm peaceful day, much of like any other so far. Everyone was calm, we hadn't ever expected it... The sun had begun to set, we were all getting ready to pack up and set for the night, when suddenly, one of my men had foolishly ran far out of distance... Although it was a fool move his sacrifice saved us from major casualties... The Bandits that Mac and his crew fought last year, they're back... they're numbers are large. One of them had removed the neck from that foolish companion of mine..... They're not merely playing around, they'll be back, i'm sure of it! We need a plan quick..... ~ Commander Keith Banecutter Edited by ShiningDarkness101, May 19 2014, 02:32 AM.

Bellington was eating a piece of ham when he spit out his food upon hearing the contents of the letter. "Give me that letter," Bellington said, wiping his lips with a napkin and taking the letter from King Rey's hands. As he read it for himself, the group conversed amongst themselves. "Wow... what barbarian would do such a thing?" Hans asked, rubbing his chin. Muddy could think of nothing but dig into the scrumptious amount of food on the table--beans, pig's head with ham all around, broccoli casserole, pumpkin pie, rolls, corn-on-the-cobs, marinated potatoes, tossed salad--and beverages of all types. "Beats me," Muddy replied, his mouth crammed with food. "Who do they think they are, picking on one soldier like that? They think they're all that and more!" Zach blurted out, still standing beside Kelly. "I believe we will need to set our minds straight for this. Your Majesty, is that what our mission is all about?" Cyber asked all the while checking on Leyak and Roald. |

Lossal: Zach, these are the same type that kidnap you, they do whatever they please to get by. They're also extremley dangerous. Thunderkeep: What was read in the letter was completly unexpected, but Hammerhead knew it was going to happen eventually... So you guys will be sent on recon pretty much, there will be other small groups as well. But, we're sending you guys out on the bigger area, It'll be easier to understand later however. You're mission will begin in 2 days from now. If you see Keith, tell him I'm going to Libra to let G.E.M. know about this. Hammerhead will most likely be coming up with. |

Cyber nodded. "Yes, sir. I assure you my men and I will be ready." "Well, if it's a fight they want, it's a fight they'll get. Picking on one soldier like they're so cool... I'll kill 'em all! I'll be the best!" Zach declared, still standing beside Kelly. "Bahaha, boy, and how do you suppose you'll do that?" Bellington could not resist to inquire, laughing. "You're but a little soldier yourself. Just a couple of bites and you'll end up like me, ha ha!" "Why, you..." Zach clenched his teeth. "Zach, calm yourself," Lossal ordered his pupil, motioning for him to sit down to which Zach grudgingly obeyed. "My point is," Bellington continued. His face became firm as a boulder whereas his face and voice grew serious. "You'll never command an army at this rate. Your behavior? Unacceptable. Your looks? A disgrace. Your combat abilities? Piss-poor. Look me in the eye, boy, and tell me I'm not wrong. I've been Prime Minister for the Dervish Empire for several years. Before that, I was a GEM official before I turned into 'this'--I know strategy and charisma. I may not look it, son, but I can sure kick your tail right here and now." "And how do you know all this about me?" Zach said, escalating the fight. Bellington sighed and breathed in deeply, prepared for another long explanation. "General Lossal has told me all about your little team of Ruby peasants over the past year. It's still beyond me why he, with all the battle experience and longevity he's been blessed with, would nurture such lowlings... but I digress. Now that I am through, I shall get back to my meal and take my leave soon. Those bloody hippies are waiting for me." |

Lossal: .... Mr. Bellington. Before you start your eating again, could you tell me what happened to your military prowress and why you're just the prime minister as of now? Kelly: Zach? Just calm down, I hate to admit it but he's right. We've come a long way from that last year but we just aren't ready to take a head on fight with a multitude of bandits. *sighs* King Rey: My my... quite a bothersome argument there, ahem....Now then after the feast, we shall talk more into about these trouble-makers. Snow: *sighs and whispers to self* Get together's are just not my thing. ------------- Later that day, during sunset at Life Palace on the rooftops, sits an unexpected Visitor. Snow: *in shock* W..when did you get here? ???: Me? I've been here for at lest an hour, everyone else is at the training grounds. Snow: Did he allow you to come? ???: Thunderkeep demanded that we come, he wants us to be in Life Palace just in case it gets besieged. Snow: Oh, *sits beside the red fox*, I've missed you alot you know? It's been a year since i've last seen you...Mac. Mac: The feeling is mutual, but tell me, what are you going to do when the mission with the other two begin? Snow: I... I'm not sure, it's my first time being in a recon mission with others. Mac: I see...Snow, whatever you do, do it with caution. Snow: *nods* I will brother. Edited by ShiningDarkness101, May 19 2014, 12:52 PM.

Bellington stared at Lossal for a moment, surprised the general would want him discussing his military might here... and in front of this kid? "Another time," he told him, and went back to his eating. "Yeah, but we'll be better. We have to be," Zach told Kelly. He looked at his food and, seeing as how he hadn't touched it, plopped down into his seat and started to eat. As he ate, he watched Bellington as he just about choked on his wine and laughed when he finally came to. "Hmph..." Zach thought. Hans and Muddy looked on helpless; Muddy felt pity for his friend while Hans comforted Kelly in her frustration. "Well, um..." Cyber said, surprised by the early argument. Finishing his meal, he turned to his men. "Leyak, Roald, how about we head over to the training grounds and get in some last-minute hits before the mission?" "Sure thing, boss," Leyak replied. Roald nodded in agreement. ~~~~~ His stomach gnawed at him, feeling the pangs of hunger arise. Amon retreated from the window seal and passed the maid, who had just finished her cleaning duties in his room and was just looking on. "Ah, so you've finally decided to come out of your hiding place," Bellington said, acknowledging Amon's presence in the doorway of the room. "Come in. I'll chat with yeh, but not for long. I must be leaving soon." He waited until Amon took his seat in front of a filled plate and cup. "Tell me, how do you like your meat, boy? Simmered?" Bellington asked the genet. "The quiet one, eh? Then, simmered it is." He let out another laugh. He looked at him once more, feeling his desire to always pick on the shy ones. "You know, genet. You're lucky... you just missed a whole argument between one of your comrades and I. I'd keep that sullen look on your face if I were you. Hahahaha, welp, I must be getting on now," Bellington finally said, struggling up out of his seat and finally on his toes. Amon said nothing and ate his food. "You take care, Ricard," King Rey said generously, shaking Bellington's hand. "Yes, you do the same, my dear friend. Those hippos and rhinos aren't going to fix things themselves. Thank you for such a marvelous feast. I shall take my leave," Bellington said and exited the palace with his guards, who were waiting outside. Edited by Dark Hero, May 19 2014, 12:19 PM.

As the group had reached the training grounds, Leyak had grown more curious, too curious he felt the need to ask a question. Leyak: Boss, You remember that mission right? Cyber: Yeah. What about it? Leyak: If you're going on the mission, what is it that we'll be doing, mine or Roald's name wasn't in the list. Cyber: Your names weren't on the list? Huh. Well, I'm not sure what we'll be doing exactly, but it looks to be like an investigation judging by that letter. Roald: What Leyak is getting at, is that your name, and two others are listed within the mission right? Mine and Leyaks weren't, which means we wont be accompanying you on the mission, however we're unsure what we shall be doing in your absence Cyber: Hm... well, help me prepare then. Leyak: Yes boss. Marble Garden Act 1
|
Cyber realized he had forgotten to give his comrades the usual commands, but hearing the news began to cloud his rationality. As Cyber led his men to the training grounds, he fell into a deep series of unanswered questions. Why weren't Leyak and Roald on the list? They always fought alongside Cyber. They were always there for him, watched his back just as he watched theirs. He taught them (technically Leyak: the generals bless his cowardly heart), needed them, and cherished them. Now, Cyber was forced to team up with a pretty, fellow Sapphirian royal he dreaded letting down in the face of battle and some emotionless foreigner he knew nothing about. Where would he even begin to trust that exotic man--with his own life? Most importantly, with the princess's life? "My dear friend," Cyber thought, sitting on a tree stump and rubbing his face, "what did you mean to do to me the day you approved of my coming here?" ~~~ [Flashback] The streets of Ruby were oddly quiet at this time of day except for the clink-clanking of Blacksmith Tarry in the distance. The poor boy was working overtime and as he leaned against an alley wall, Cyber could not help but wonder if a war was going to erupt within the new few years. Otherwise, why else would Tarry's father make him work to the bone? He was old enough and had enough experience. Speaking of experience, Cyber felt he had dug enough into the military ditch to go on next year's mission... if he, gulp, would even be approved, but enough about that. Now, he was scheduled to meet Damien in the very spot he stood in. Cyber looked at the sky and judged by the sun's rays that Damien was late--totally unlike the man. Curious and concerned, Cyber looked around and peeked behind corners while standing in place, but a few moments passed and there the porcupine was... with a drink of elderberry wine in his hand. Typical. "Oh man, you had me worried," Cyber told Damien as the porcupine approached him, stopping a few inches away from where the bat-cyborg stood. "I was looking all around, the sky told me you were late, and the city....!" "Shut up and drink," Damien interrupted, smirking and pressing a glass of wine against Cyber's chest. Cyber hesitated. He was not one to drink alcohol. He, in fact, detested it even though he was twenty-four and of legal age, but seeing the serious look on Damien's face, Cyber took the glass. As he sipped on it, Damien appeared to struggle for words. The porcupine's lips quivered and Damien looked at the ground before he began. "Do you know why I told you to come here?" he asked his friend. "Don't answer; just hear me out. Remember the mission assigned by King Hammerhead Ruby? Well..." he paused for a moment here, "You're going. I have accepted His Majesty's request. You're free to go." Cyber's lips pursed into a smile, nodding with heartfelt gratitude. "Thank you, sir. I shall forever be in your debt." "When I said you're free to go, I meant it. No debt," Damien countered him. Cyber tilted his head and, frowning a bit, became perplexed by his dear friend's statement, but his happiness was much too overwhelming for questions. "I shall bring Leyak and Roald Rangda with me." Damien was walking the opposite direction when he replied once more, "They're not my minions. Whatever pleases you, you're free." With that, the porcupine raised up his hand as if to wave goodbye and walked off. ~~~ "Free..." Cyber thought to himself. He repeated the word over and over to reassure himself he remembered and heard correctly. Ultimately, a deeper, more troublesome question stirred in his brain. "Were you even right in your decision or were you, on that day in the Life Palace, only harboring a deep hatred and trying to get rid of me all along?" "Boss?" Leyak called out to him, tapping him lightly on the shoulder. "Oh, I'm sorry, guys. Got carried away," Cyber said when he came to, and he chuckled to give them the illusion that he was okay. "Where were we? Oh yes, training. Let's just focus on that for now." "Yes, sir," the Rangda men said in unison. ~~~ The feast had been over for an hour as Amon returned to his room upstairs. On his way there, he caught the same maid walking into the royalty's bedrooms and decided to leave her to her responsibilities. In his room, he sat on his bed, which smelled of sweet perfume and was puffed up with soft cotton. When he found he was alone, Amon sank into his thoughts once more and appeared to be conversing with himself in an inner monologue, what with the twitches he made in his face. Secretly, the genet was having a conversation with his snarly companion, Mephisto. Oh, how dare his conscience breed that name again! When that wintry night fell upon the genet and he was freezing in despair in the forest, Mephisto appeared to him like an angel of light. When the community, his own mother, and his best friend finally told him the truth about his father's death after all those years, Mephisto gave him the decision to depart his hometown and never return. When he traveled the seas in search of new land only to receive news of his recruitment on board the Holy Division, Mephisto tagged along as his partner-in-crime, ironically as that seemed. When, during those events that occurred the previous year, he felt anxiety over his secret of the alchemy and feared he would be caught--and sentenced to death, Iria was there. Iria, not Mephisto. "What are you rambling on about, boy?" Mephisto asked him, appearing in his bed all huddled against the genet, who, startled, jumped up from his position. "That girl... she haunts you good." "How many times have I told you? Do not frighten me again!" Amon shouted. Sighing deeply, he readjusted his coat collar and regained his composure. "You know about the mission, I presume." "And you were chosen? You. The paper," Mephisto replied. "Calling me paper is not helping," Amon argued. He gripped his wrist and pressed his thumb down on the purplish veins that were glowing through his glove. "This past year, I have been concentrating on the astral orbs, as you know. Agh, every time I attempt one, my wrist starts to pain me." "Pfft. Do I look like a doctor to you?" Mephisto asked. "Anyway, a trick like that for a weakling is only natural. You'll get better with time if you'll stick with me." Stick with him? Oh, the forces help Amon if the demon could read the genet's mind right now... "I want to be free."
