Xbox One will come without Kinect later this year, Microsoft has announced. It will cost $399 USD on June 9. In Europe, that's £349 and 399 Euros. This brings Xbox One's price to parity with PlayStation 4. This new Xbox One price and packaging comes as a result of user feedback. Microsoft is responding directly to those who want nothing more from their Xbox than using the machine with a controller. Kinect will be sold as a separate accessory for those who wish to adopt motion and voice controls in the future. Just this past February, Microsoft stated it had no intention of removing the device from its new console. "Kinect remains an important part of our vision," head of Xbox Phil Spencer said. "We will continue to innovate on Kinect, I think it's an important differentiator for us." When Microsoft first announced the Xbox One, it was revealed that the console wouldn't function if Kinect was unplugged, leading some to worry about privacy. Since then, the company decided to reverse this policy. |

Also noteworthy is that it's also removing the dumb paywalls (Xbox Gold) for just getting access to services like Netflix (which you still need to buy an account for) on the Xbox when they have been free to get on other systems. While this is nice to hear and having it a hundred dollars cheaper is much better, it sure says a lot about how bad the Xbone is if everyone is cheering over something getting removed. |

I don't think its much to do with something getting removed, more due to something getting removed that shouldn't have been bundle in with the console in the first place. |

The Kinect has potential, but it's either: not being utilized to the fullest or it's not what people are looking for in gaming at the moment. I think. Could be totally wrong, but I have seen some wonky things people do youtube. |

Yeah it is telling of how poorly it is doing. Microsoft said 5 milion but that's shipped while the PS4 is ove 7 million sold to customers and Microsoft have stated they are slowing down production because they obviously have over shipped. I'm thinking they announced this now because April NPD is coming soon and they probably got smoked. In March they had to give away their biggest game of the month with an unofficial price drop to $449 (making the console essentially $389) and they still got outsold. Not that selling the most matters but it will only slow down the lead of the competitor but it will still get outsold. They lost trust and I still don't trust them. I'll only ever buy another Xbox if the brand gets sold to another company because Microsoft will say ANYTHING to sound good instead of just letting their product do the selling.

So, first it was "no used games", now it's "the Kinect is never going away". The XBone is much more tempting now without the Kinect (because I really don't want that thing spying on me in my living room). But I just don't trust Microsoft anymore after all of their backpeddaling, and their reluctance to change until greed bites them in the ass. In any case, what we need now is updated versions of the consoles with bigger hard drive sizes. I want to see versions with at least 1-2 TB before I take a serious look at either one. I heard stories about people already running out of hard drive space on just 500 GB. |

Exactly if Xbox One was selling well you can be your ass that they'd still have it exctly the way it was when they announced it. They act like they're for the gamers but it's all about money and they can't make any when no one wants it and they aren't selling enough. That Phil Spencer guy who took over is consistently talking about he is all about games when he was a big suporter of DRM and vocal about it. Now things have changed? He is like a politician that flip flops and hopes the public is stupid enough to forget about it. But peope remember what they started out with and they remember their competition was for the consumer from the get go. Not to mention even at the same price as its main competitor it isn't a good deal because it's still a weaker system with no advantage feature wise. If Sony drops the PS4 to $349 it will render that move useless. On the subject of games, yeah installs are HUGE! I have 10 disc games and 7 downloaded games and have used over 300gb but I got a 2.5in hdd that is 1.5 TB for $85 online and when they start to make larger onesthat fit I'll upgrade eventually but I have lots of space still. I was right. April NPD numbers are out and they knew they were faling behind so they had to do this knee jerk reaction. 115k XBones sold in North America and 215k PS4s making it almost 2:1 in favor od PS4 with Infamous Second Son becoming the best selling Next Gen game so far. May will only be worse as MLB 14 The Show released on PS4 and being the only baseball game available in the U.S. it'll help out Not to mention WatchDogs which has better graphics and exclusive content on PS4.They didn't listen to ANYONE AT ALL!! They just weren't getting money so they had to scramble to make things look better. Sony and Nintendo aren't perfect but if they pulled this crap I'd be just as pissed, probably would quit gaming.
