I am a huge shmup fan yet there was always one that always looked the most interesting and that is Hyper Duel.

http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/hyperduel/hyperduel.htm

It's a side scrolling scroller with "Macross" inspired gameplay, transforming a space ship into a mech. Really gravy.
The game was developed by Technosoft, known for the first five Thunder Force titles. From what I see the visuals on the enemies are very similar.

I'm excited to say I just threw down the cash for this f-Abulous Sega Saturn import but the price is...how do we say...not cheap. The price tag really throws gamers off. Unfortunately, apparently there were only like 500 someodd copies floatin' around out there. Apparently...

It is however recommended by many "shmup" fans next to Radiant Silvergun as the best shooter on the console. Pity it never came to my obese country.

I've seen this game, though it reminds me more of Android Assault than Radiant Silvergun. It seems fun though and really awesome, although I'll look into seeing if I can play it on MAME Player, since it's that expensive.

Although the Last Boss is really weird. I don't want to spoil it, but I can hardly tell what's happening in it.

Also, I would like to ask a favor from for anyone who is my friend here.
If someday we meet in person in the near future, and I had recently done anything that would confirm that I had become a Brony (which as of now I am not one), such as if I had posted on a Pony-related fan-site, drawn a Pony-themed artwork, contributed to a Pony fanfic, or anything else along those lines. If I have done anything like that, I want you to punch me in the face without warning. This make sound like I'm joking, but I am absolutely serious about this. Ignore any future statements retracting this if I ever make any. Though if you do, please first confirm that it is me who is doing it, and not some Brony who is posing as me and wants to see me get punched. I do not wish to go down the path of the Bronies, and hopefully those of you reading this will help me so that it stays that way, if god forbid I ever even attempt it.
Thank you.

Yeah, Android Assault is another that looks excellent. They definitely don't make em' like they used to. From what I know the Saturn version just has updated colors that look more deep and much darker, possibly to fit its theme. I've had my run with Macross Scrambled Valkyrie to know that I'll enjoy a $200+ 10 stage shooter.

Still, I'd like to see more games like this and its Sega CD cousin.

I think you might like the game, Einhander then. You should check out Einhander if you haven't.

I am a Shmup enthusiast myself as well, and I know about a lot of them that are rather interesting and unique.

Einhander is possibly my favorite "shmup" of all time. I love its style and boss/sub-boss design. Currently I'm learning to master the game. I'm fine until after the fourth boss (the one that gets the sheild half way through the fight or after the stingray mini fight) and have been learning the sub boss of the fifth stage (the one that has the long arms and has the spinning "firework" bombs that explode upward.

Off topic my second favorite shmup of all time is Galactic Attack a.k.a. Rayforce/Layer Section/Gunlock. It's a part of Taito's wonderful Ray trilogy and quite possibly next to Super Mario Bros. 2 being my favorite video game challenge. I've been a player for a long time and after 10 plus years I finally completed it October 13, 2012. Believe it or not this was a goal, to complete Galactic Attack once on normal mode.
Anyway, I'm happy to say I'm ready to rank Einhander number 8 in my top ten favorite video games of all time.

Gee whiz, we need a shmup topic somewhere on this board. Anything from Arcade to current gen. I'm not ready to talk about it but so far I'm enjoying an impressive 3DS eShop title, Kokuga. From what I know the director also did Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga and possibly Alien Soldier and the company also worked with G Darius. They are G Rev.

Radiant Silvergun was made by the same company as Silhouette-Mirage, Treasure! I love Treasure Games! My name here is even after the protagonist in Silhouette-Mirage, Shyna! Glad to see you're into it.

Oh, and I also played Galactic Attack, though I like to call it Rayforce. I've also played the prequels, Raycrisis, and Raystorm. Raystorm has to be the best in the series though.

Some other shmups I like include Touhou (Especially Touhou, with its super uber cuteness and moe'), Dodonpachi, Ketsui Kizuna, Mushihimesama, Gradius, Otomedius, Ikaruga, Twinbee, Battle Garegga, Battle Bakraid, Strikers 1945/1999, Castle of Shikigami, Armed Police Batrider, Terra Diver, Espgaluda, Crimzon Clover, Deathsmiles, Space Manbow, Strania The Stella Machina, Astebreed, Darius, R-Type, Star Fox, Reflex, Alltynex, and Hellsinker

Have you played any of those?

A lot of Treasure love between us! Dynamite Headdy, Ikaruga and Alien Storm are excellent. Gunstar Heroes and its sequel nor have I given enough time to RS, thanks to Armored Core and heavy amounts of Looney Tunes. I'm a bit embaressed to say I don't own Silhouette Mirage being that platformers are my hardcore genre. It looks gorgeous. A good competitor, look wise, is Astal. It's a bit of an obscure release by Sega for the Saturn however has an artsy sort of style. Unlike Silhouette Mirage it did get an english release for the Saturn. I'm not sure what the differences between the Saturn or PSX versions are but I'm going to do the PSX. Money is an object with it.

I see the magical names of Ikaruga, Terra Diver, Darius and Star Fox.
Terra Diver (I'm not willing to look up nor attempt to spell its Japanese name) was a great follow-up to the first two Ray games with its astounding lock on feature. I also like the use of CG in the game. It starts to get a bit harder for me once stage 5 begins. I own the special re-release that had a demo of Battle Garegga. I see that Battle Garegga has awesome gameplay but somewhat average visuals. I'm going to keep my eye on it but not at this time due to its price tag. Ikaruga I love, not as much as Terra Diver or the Ray games but had a one of a kind gimmick that makes me crazy for the game. Unfortunately, like most shmups I haven't given it a proper amount of time. Darius is Darius. The first three were...OK. I prefered Darius Gaiden over the first two mostly due to the fact of its high end visuals. Darius Twin is like Gaia Seed. It's a great entry level Village Name. Taito did good with G Darius. To me its visuals could pass off as an early PS2 Village Name. Of course this is my favorite game in the franchise which also has my favorite bosses.

Now we get to R-Type. I have a lot of respect for Irem and the way the series resembles the works of H.G. Giger. Unfortunately, the only Village Name I really liked was the third for SNES. Now I should say I've never touched R-Type Delta. I own all but that, R-Type Final and what was on the PSP. I can just say I'm not the biggest fan.

The cute thing on Cave shooters is that my first is DoDonPachi Ressurection for the Android and such was my first. Currently DonPachi is on its way. The crap part is unfortunately along with Ressurection and DonPachi, the original DoDonPachi is the only other in its series available to myself legally.

Most that you listed I've heard of but haven't touched duevto the availability problem. Battle Bakraid however makes me want to do illegal downloading for MAME.
Others I'm passionate about would be: Trizeal, Shienryu, Blazing Star, Raystorm, Zanac Neo, Axelay, Zed Blade, Sturmwind, Last Resort, Pulstar for its tunes and visuals and Starfighter Sanvein.

Of course a new shooter on its way to the Sega Dreamcast is The Ghost Blade. Whether you own a DC or do the emulation thing and like Manic shooters you should consider it. I also recommend Sturmwind. It was released for the Dreamcast literally a year ago give or take a few days. Its like Axelay for SNES except for its a full side scroller rather than vertical every other stage. It has multiple weapons and a neat set of big bad boss dudes. Not a very strong challenge but not simple either.

I'm soon going to be starting the Raiden franchise as well as a few bullet hell shooters. One in particular is Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra which is one that you listed. I hope its as good as the DoDonPachi series as well as Fast Striker and DonPachi.
A few others I'm looking forward to starting are Sine Mora, the second and third Thunder Force, both Strikers games, Chaos Field and of course the Gradius series.
I would love to see re-releases dedicated to arcade only Village Names from the late 80s to the early 2000s. Over 14 great years of impressive shooters.
